Fraud - parts ordered against my VIN number

Hi Guys
A bit concerned today I found out my service plan on my 520D has been frozen. Somebody has fraudulently ordered parts against my vin number in November last year and SMG Cape Town suspended my service plan as the records now reflect my vehicle was in an accident.
Has this ever happened to anybody else. I feel like the onus is now on me to prove I did not order theses parts and that my accident free car was never involved in any accidents.
BMW SA unable to tell me what parts was or who ordered it other that it was via SMG Cape Town (not which dealer thought as there are three) and they just have a name of BG Auto Body works (which when I google doesn't exist) no address / contact numbers etc Any advice please

Yes spoke to Smg repair centre they have no knowledge of these parts being ordered. Waiting on BMW SA to advise in the morning which SMG (Tygervalley or Crntury City ordered the parts) BMW SA says they have to investigate as info does not reflect. Also when they put in the ref # for the parts ordered it comes up as unknown so they can't even tell me what was ordered

Sorry to hear bro, I am inclined to say that BMW need to prove it, but it seems that whenever it comes to BMW the owner is the one that needs to do the work, BMW SA just sits back and does nothing.

Here is a situation showing fraud on their processes, but they would rather blame the consumer and not investigate further.

If I were you I would use the above as evidence to reinstate your motorplan. :fencelook:

The fact that they themselves cannot see what parts have been ordered using the ref # in addition to the information not reflecting is proof enough that something funny has gone on.

Good luck and hopefully this gets resolved quickly!

I agree with this. Fight it. If they cant see what actually happened, how can they punish you for it?

There must be a phone number of the person who ordered the parts. Ask the dealership to follow up. Shouldn’t be your problem!

According to me your car would have had to be "booked" in at one of the 2 SMG dealerships either Tygervalley or Century City where your key is read and a service provider there as is the norm would have had to allocate the repairs be it body wise or other at their own repairer, therefore the order would have had to been placed by the person assigned to the works order on the given day!

If there is no "record" of your car been booked in and as in the norm where you sign out before it is released from them then they must unfreeze your M/Plan immediately as this would be the proof thereof ..........

Just my sixpence :fencelook:

The guys at the dealership aren’t holding a gun to your head, forcing you to book your car in. You merely do this in order to not void your motorplan.

You can go to any dealership and order things on your own VIN and they would still freeze your MP if they feel the parts ordered will be used in breach of motorplan.

Never heard of that operation Ferdi sorry but that's not the way they are supposed to operate, your name and whole "pedigree" is associated to your VIN hence the reading of your key, if this has been done then it is in total breach of their own protocol and they are thus accountable not the client as in this case!

So you have never bought any parts without a key being scanned? That’s essentially what happened here..

They only every scan your key when your car is taken in for a service/repairs etc.

This car obviously wasn’t booked in, thus no key was scanned.

SMG Cape Town is the SMG at Century City, pretty sure of that. (phone them up and ask for the info)

You can buy parts without your key being scanned, you just give a VIN.

The above story make it sounds like the car (or car of same model) was repaired at "BG Auto Body Works" (who I have never heard of) who ordered the parts at SMG Cape Town on that VIN.

Once you establish which dealership it was, ask them for a copy of the invoice.

Somebody had to have picked the parts up, or it was an inside job and the DP would probably want to find that person also.

Invoice + CCTV footage should at the very least give you a traceable vehicle registration number, if not the person (people) responsible.

lets say i fone in...now we know that you can't talk to these guys without a VIN. I see your car in my office parking lot & i use your VIN number...what happens then?

what was the outcome of this?? Very interesting topic because some guys share their vin to order a specific part for that model car which their car doesnt have and people are generally fine with sharing a VIN number for you to use at a dealership. So this is definitely interesting

Surely there is some kind of authorization process and audit trail for ordering parts.

They know exactly who did it imo.

What is increasingly frustrating, is that when one wants to purchase a second BMW and said person wants the motorplan history and comments, BMW tell you that only the owner can request this information even if you have the VIN number, bear in mind that this is just for service and comment history.

But to order a range of parts with a VIN number, no proof of ownership is required.

Double standards and without a doubt something very fishy going on.
