Madness. This is the kind of deal they catch ppl on who's desperate to own a BMW.

They’re running better deal on the 2.0d X3 at the moment.

11% deposit, R7800 odd installment, 48 months, 80k km cap.

Looks like one of those rental agreements, but at that price I’m sure many people will go for it.

You’ll never own the car, but it’s one way of getting into an expensive car at an affordable price.

:skit: crikey mosses they trying to get on board with these low ball deposit schemes that everyone is offering and some fools will fall for this.

Then 6 months down the line they find out its not all rosy and try and sell "AT THE SAME PRICE THEY PAID"

I have no empathy for people who fall for this. :biglol:

will be going towards a mill soon...more than half of the new cars on the road will be rentals...its the future unfortunately. Not that youll want to own it past Motorplan anyways....have an old //M in your garage and have a cheap daily.

Does it really matter though?

It only makes sense to buy a car outright if you buy it and intend to drive it well past it's warranty/ plan.

If you are just going to trade it in anyway after 4 years then deals like that make perfect sense. You only lose your 11% deposit, not the 50% deprecation hit you took. You just stay in a perpetual loop of debt, this way it's just a nicer car.

I agree 100%.

It’s not a bad deal at all if you are content with paying an installment every month and never outright owning a car.

I didn’t see the fine print, though, so not too sure if the deal is as clear cut as it seems at face value.

ja and its not only for people to afford a vehicle..lots of people with lots of money choose to rent cars...the one issue is the mileage cap

From what I've seen, the premium paid for the guaranteed buy back is quite high though. If you own a car that will hold its value better than the average car, it's sometimes cheaper to just finance. Of course, if you can afford it and want piece of mind, guaranteed buy back is the best. Agree that the market is moving slowly towards a fully rental solution. Admire what Volvo is doing in this space - they're providing a full house solution where the rental covers all costs of the vehicle including insurance.

Also be wary of these "Guaranteed buy back" deals, there is bound to be small print related to this process.

I heard of a story where someone bought a 3-series on this plan. When it came time to give the car back, they essentially walk around the whole car to inspect it...

"Oh, I see a scratch on the bottom of the front bumper, we will have to respray the entire bumper, R5k".

"Scratch on door - another R5k".

"Wheels have scratches - need to be repaired, R8k".

Something along those lines, but they literally nitpicked every little thing. At the end of the day, they guy was offered R60-70k LESS THAN the guaranteed buy back price.

yeah this is all in the fine print, car needs to be returned in an excellent condition, however depending on the dealer, there are some scratches that are acceptable...VW explains this well on their website. I would assume other manufactures have something similar to this...

This is the real reality of all these deals. It’s not as rosy as the dealership make you believe. We’ve written a detailed article explaining exactly this issue with Agility finance from MB. https://www.wheelindex.co.za/blog/h...agility-finance-work?id=xFszssBEu4qAOsuogQgs0

You don’t just “jump” into a new car at the end.
