RACE CHIP Done....
Bought the race chip from Rennzport when I purchased the car. Didn't wanna fit it immediately, as I wanted to test consumption on a full tank before and after the major service and then only fit the RC.
We decided to go with the RC ultimate, which has a faster processor then the other derivatives but also has the bluetooth option. Basically what this allows for, is for the user to change maps by linking your phone to the chip via BT.
The install is extremely simple.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal, and allow all electric current to dissipate by leaving the car as is for 10 minutes.
2. Whilst waiting the 10 minutes, I removed the cowl filter and engine covers from the engine bay. Realised how badly I need an engine clean when I did this
3. Locate the sensor that plugged into the fuel rail. Very easy to find as it will be located near your injectors. Unplug the sensor
4. Connect the new harness that comes with the RC into its place. The harness points are color coded, so you can't go wrong. Plug the Original Sensor into the opposite end of the harness.
5. Remove the deactivation dongle from the harness and plug the RC unit into its place. Lastly mount the RC unit in a place on the inside of the engine bay and make sure it's secure.
6. Reconnect the battery and switch ignition on. Pair your phone, follow on screen instructions and you ready to choose your preferred map.
You can basically choose between 3 different modes.
Effeciency mode
Sport mode
Race mode.
Whilst I purchased the unit with the intention to better consumption of the 120d, I decided to run it on race mode for Public holiday.
RC claims to increase power from
130kw to 170kw
350nm to 445nm
I'm eager to test this on a proper dyno to see if the claims are met.
I drove the car normally for the first 50km of my journey and the second half I gave it some spirited driving. I was pleasantly surprised to see how alive the small car really became.
1st and 2nd are nice and nippy with power delivery smooth and almost instant. 3rd to 5th she pulls extremely well through the gears and get to 180 fairly quickly for the small engine. The car being a manual made all more fun
Got back home and put it it efficency map. Filled the tank up and now will see if there are any consumption gains to be had. The Tune feel extremely smooth and I'm happy about that.
Will keep you guys updated with regard to the how this RC confirms.
