Guys the struts do fit the pre FL E46's. We've fitted one to a 1999 E46 323i

+1 , Just ensure the studs are long enough.
Modding for me was just not worth while.

frikkieh must have the reinforcement plates in his shock towers that are taking up some of the tread...

You can get aftermarket ones :)

But I have tried a few different makes(Of the old type ones) including bosch and they all have sucked.. Will never buy anything else other than the ones from BMW

I paid about R700 if I can remember correctly... Worth it.. they work brilliant..

I paid R450 last week. Maybe there has been a change. But the look identical to Bosch Icons. Im sure its them just rebranded.

Could be that my dealer is in a posh area so they add a "fee" onto it to make it seem better quality as most shops around here do..

But was that for both (whole wiper & not just the rubber?)

you studs seem to have the same amount of tread left as mine when bolted to the tower... so it looks like other pre F/L might also have this problem... i can go check tomorrow...

Found very interesting reading :
http://www.rogueengineering.com/rogue/StrutB/RE_RB.html

Extract:

"a strut tower brace made entirely of aluminum or magnesium would be most affected by the elevated temperatures of an engine compartment. This may be fine on a strut plate, but if the centerbar were to expand, this would negate any benefit of the bar since it would change the suspension settings in a negative manner (usually increasing positive camber). Since the heat of an engine compartment can exceed 200ºF, this would cause an aluminum or magnesium center bar to start expanding. Simply switching the center bar to steel would cut the variation by nearly 50%. Of course, switching to carbon fiber would make the expansion virtually immeasurable. "

BMW is selling the upgraded wipers now and they work much much better

Caution Caution they are pricy at R595 a set
