Ferrari with BMW m88 engine

As much as I love Ferrari....

The unwieldy and expensive-to-maintain V12 power unit was replaced by a BMW Motorsport M88 engine married to a Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox.
This is believed to be the only conversion of its kind in the world.

And a beautiful M88 engine.........in a Ferrari

honestly you cant try sell a hybrid car like this as a 'classic' sure it may have made sense in terms of running costs... but i dont think anyone will want it now as a collectors item...

its the same argument with the guys who put a Toyota motor in a BMW, sometimes it makes sense to put a more reliable motor or a motor you know more about or have more spares readily available for.

engine swaps are a common thing in older cars- if that V12 was finished can you imagine trying to get parts?

the older Ferrari motors were notorious with problems.

i think its still a very interesting car.

If maybe a little over priced- as with any classic it loses all value with different parts.

What a pity - engine is the heart and soul of any car, especially a Ferrari. I really liked the Ferrari 365/400i - horrible electrics and an awefull 3 speed auto fitted the majority of them but, hey...its a Ferrari and can be forgiven almost anything. That V12 - Hmmmmm - Lovely

This conversion looks to be neatly done but I have never liked cross-manafacturer engine swaps. I am almost prepared to bet that the only way that this car would sell is to remove the engine and sell it without the powerplant. Unless he takes an offer closer to R100,000

I see he is recommeding exporting the car - could this be because it needs to be registered (maybe as built-up) and that is going to be very difficult since it is LHD

I can see what happened. Engine stopped working. Ferrari specialist present a bill similar to the cost of a new Ferrari and owners said f it. We will drop in a M88... which would be more at home in my 635csi but anyway. Its not the prettiest Ferrari. But it is very 70s.
