What a Wednesday it was:blueCry: While driving home after a perfect holiday the F30(320i, 2014, 185000km) came up with the dreaded error message sound(Battery not being charged). Drove it home slowly and just before the gate another Error Message(Drive Moderately, increased steering effort):blueCry: power steering gone. Got the car into the garage and parked. This morning the car's cluster is like a Christmas tree the car won't go into drive it's now got a drivetrain fault.

Reading codes will result is a host of false errors. Bmw systems are very touchy about low or inconsistent battery/alternator charging levels. First your warning popped up about the non charging state, from there it started deactivating systems is a cascade manner. With the battery in a depleted state overnight it will freeze up different systems and leave you where you are now.

First action is to address your alternator and ensure it is healthy, charge up the battery on a charger and move on from there. If you handy with a spanner then changing the alternator isn't a difficult job to DIY, if not then find a reputable workshop and task them with the job.

Remember the F Series came with a smart alternator which deactives charge when the battery is near full thus reducing the parasitic load on the engine.

Alternator belt snapped?

Yep!! Quick question though when a car goes to BMW for a service that includes a "Vehicle inspection" aren't they supposed to check the belts. Why I ask is the car went in for an Oil, Spark plug and "Inspection" service two weeks back and they missed this.:fencelook:

How much is the inspection on the invoice?

Nothing surprises me with the dealerships anymore. The basic service items are done by the cheapest labor in the workshop resulting in highest possible GP. Makes perfect business sense but at the expense of the customer.
