F30 320i VS F30 328i Engine Differences

So after some more forum hunting the guys with 320's only solution is to flash to 328 maps and then stack jb4 ontop of flash to run higher than 17psi.

Interesting... I test drove both the 320i and 328i and for me the difference was massive. The 320i is no slouch, but the 328i just felt like a different animal. I ended getting in and out of the 320i and the 328i a few times just to get an accurate feel for the difference and ...

Well I decided to go for a F30 328i M-Sport M-Perfomance!

Should be taking delivery by end of this week Super excited.

Of course there's a massive difference. One is 135kw and the other 180kw.... its the same as going from a mapped 330d to a standard 330d. The mapped one is a completely different animal.

However there are other benefits in the 328i over the 320i such as better brakes.

And the deal I got was with a difference of like 20k between the 320i and 328i so it was a steal for the 328i IMO.

Yeah both same year, same mileage, same spec. Only diff was the 320i had the 19's and the 328i had the terrible 18's. So I took the 328i and speccd the 20" M performance wheels as well as all the rest of the M-Performance visuals. Decided on the 20" wheels because they were on special and cheaper than the 19"s. Think the 20"s will look amaze

Good choice. 20's is a looker. I timed my 328i 0-100 at 5,59 and it only has 14000km. Its really a well balanced machine. Merc c250 and audi 2lt T has no show

Yeah the 328i is no slouch... I've been seeing guys all over youtube clocking their 328i's at around 5.5 second mark 0-100. Its properly quick. raise: Cant wait! Also, i'd rather compare the 320i to the Audi 2.0L and the C250... 328i is a class above IMO. :rollsmile:

5.5s is at the coast and probably a slight downhill (maybe even 0-96kph or 60mph). I timed mine with 2 passengers and a full tank of petrol using torque app and managed 6.4s. No doubt, if I drop the passengers, get the fuel down and get the perfect road, I would easily get into the 5.8/5.9 range.

Yeah bud makes definite sense. not even a second difference however. Try without the passengers and let us know

6years later...keen to hear who's gone the 328i route instead of the 320i?

will probably move from my 330i to a F30 next year , budget is around 220k....


would the 328i not be a more highly strung motor 6/7 years down the line leading to more maintenance issues ?

@"Tjoppies" why would you consider a N20 motor, after all the hate it rightly deserves. It is a garbage P.O.S motor... 

My mate ran bearings in his N20 a few months ago, had all the preventative maintenance done to keep it reliable and it still decided to grenade itself. Car was doing 94k and under plan, cost MP R240k all in.. Ridiculous considering that is roughly what the car is worth. 

There is no petrol F30 I would buy, with the exception of a 340i (B58TU).

The N20 is horrible. My brother in law is having such an issue with his X3 with the N20 motor.

The engine has been almost completely rebuilt, but still it gives issues.

Else you going for the 335i or 340i, stick with your 330i

@"akash" I actually wouldn't even consider a N55.. I personally know of at least 5 vehicles that have run bearings on this motor. If you Google this, you would see its more common than most people expect. 

It's why I was put off the M235i/435i and decided V8 it is.. Sadly BMW doesn't leave us with much petrol options.. If you willing to roll the dice and take a chance, its your prerogative.. Personally, I would rather not take that chance, as small as it may be.
