I will consider a brand new car only if 90% or more of this countries citizens have some respect for someone else's property.
Which is not the case, so secondhand it will be.

I have a base model e90 325i - it is ok.

As usual. I would say go for it if you like it, but I know you like the 328 more. So what is their deal like on the 328.

Point is - I will lose it if I get a parking dent on my brand new BMW.
So I feel better if it is a second hand one.

My 325, is a great car with ok features. It has no optional extras.

Not great, but better

Oh I see what you mean. But a standard BMW is also worse on trade in. A best spec for a 3 series is auto, sunroof n xenon. Those will always get a better trade as their easier to sell than a plain unspec'd one.

The 1 series coupe/convertible with Xenons, auto, trades at up to R20 000 above book. That's how high the demand is. Spec your car correctly.

Guys, this thread is EXACTLY what I intended it to be.
The more viewpoints we get, the better this thread will not just me, but anyone else that might be thinking of going the same route.
So once again thank you my fellow fanatics for delivering!!

problem is if you can just about afford this price then you get the base, its when you start specing it that the price will rise.

prsonally wait about a year and get a secunf hand one with specs for roughly the same price

I couldn't agree more. My e92 has just under R90 000's worth of extras. Thats the reason why I'll never buy a brand new car, it makes no sense to me why one would wanna throw money in the air just like that. But I'm glad there are, cos I'm the guy that buys their well spec'd 2 yr old cars.

I'll let someone else take the knock...

Ok.....

Lets be insane.....

Consider this

2005 BMW 3 SERIES SEDAN 325 I AUTO

78 000 km, ABS, a/bags, AC, SUNROOF BMW MOTORPLAN EXTENSION PDC R 169,900

Now lets do some maths..

22,000km still in motorplan, should cover you for another year, and during that time, you can replace anything that goes squeek boo or hiss, with a couple of "friendly" BMW service technicians that will help.

Updated model, still prob going to loose 30% of value over the next 2 years, as apposed to 30% of its value over the first 6 months for new...

Use it dont use it :)

Vehicle price (incl. CO2 Emissions Tax) R363 309
Total cost to customer R290 678
Monthly payment R4 799
Deposit of 10% R36 331
Monthly service fee R57
Interest rate (linked to 9% prime) 8.99%
Period 54 months
Guaranteed Future Value R181 500

Is that "guaranteed future value" the residual ??? if so that is almost 50% of the vehicle price :nonono:
