technical F30 - 320D (N47) - P0087 Low Rail Pressure | Has anyone experienced this issue before ?

So I just bought a BMW F30, 320d N47 Engine, and when the engine is under load I'll recieve a MIL with a Drivetrain Warning on the dash putting the car into limp mode. If I stop the engine and start it again the warning disappears and the car drives perfectly untill I put my foot down too fast, or for too long and the dash lights up again and so this cycle continues

When I plug in my scan tool (Delphi DS150E) It shows the fault code
P0087 : Rail Pressure regulated volume probability: the low rail pressure / positive
change deviation

Has anyone had experience with this issue ?
I know there are 2 pressure control valves, and 1 pressure sensor, all expensive parts and I don't want to have to replace all 3 when only 1 is broken

Best would be to scan with ista and check the variables for the deviation (actual vs request)

Could just be a faulty sensor, with the best of luck. But could also be the lpfp. best thing as the others have said to log it or check it via ISTA. See what the car is doing/ reading and then that should help lead you into the right direction

How's it, what was the finding regarding this issue? I'm experiencing the same issue with exactly the same symptoms. Car is not stock, i did decat and software years ago, (N47 F30 320d, 2012). It went into limp mode today, pulled to the side of the road and it switched off immediately and wouldn't start, but couple of minutes later it started.

I drive a 2013 F10 520d with the same motor as yours. When i bought the car in Feb this year the car would infrequently show a drivetrain error but would immediately perform as before. I eventually found the bottom boost pipe coming from the turbo to the intercooler to have a quite large gash or cut on the bottom of it and i assume that is what caused the error to show even when accelerating at about 70% or more power. I have also replaced the boost pipe seals as well as a seal under the flap in the inlet pipe (not sure what it is called). Also replaced the inlet manifold gasket with a new gasket without swirl flaps. This all seems to have fixed the problem. Car was also mapped recently shortly after i found the burst boost pipe and is performing well now. Maybe your boost pipe/s are leaking?? (My car is on 186k kms) Never got a low rail pressure warning though.
