F30 320d fuel consumption

Hi guys, having owned both the e90 320d and now the f30 320d thought i would share the difference in fuel economy. This is a nice comparison because the driving style is a constant on both vehicles.
You need to bear in mind that the e90 was 6speed auto and the f30 8speed auto with much taller gearing.
The best figure attained with the e90 was 5,2l/100km on diagnostic but actual fuel put in pushing this up to 5,6l/100km.
The f30 is simply astounding. On the same trip of 860km the diagnostic readout is 4,2l/100km with the actual working out at 4,3km/l. (859,9 km fuel 37 litres).
The vehicle has only done 1124km so still tight.
When i check fuel consumption i like to look at the range given when filling up because this gives a true reflection of the average.
range is given as 1092km. Check the image.

Awesome.

If the consumption is really 4.2l/100km the range should be 1357km.

Usually after I fill up the range shows 1200km, that is about average of 4.8l/100km and that is closer to what I get.

But anyway F30 320d FTW:thumbs:

Sorry think you missed the point about averages. Remember this is the first tank and will have included all the showroom stop start etc. Lets check what happens after 2nd tank to that average.Post your image and give us something to aim for.

This is my screen after the second fillup. The average the ECU sees is now a lot better and therefore were up to a range of 1302km

Roughly 10km start/stop driving almost daily and the odd weekend leg stretch I'm averaging 6.3l/100km, open road giving it beans most of the way best I got was 5.1. I'm still chuffed as the 323 was more than double that :)

Went to Newcastle this morning. Thanks to the weather bureau for getting it wrong again as far as mist goes.Want evidence look at clips
and see how trucks emerge out of mist. Road is atrocious. The only positive was the F30 320d once again proving its worth.Trip there and back was 579.5km.The gauge is only 1 stripe below 3/4.(see gauge)
The range left to travel shows 852km.This means the total of travelled and left add up to 1431.5km.The screen shows 4.1litres/100.

That is amazing consumption!

i am shocked by my E90, the F30 is another beast on its own!!!

DIESEL FTW!!!

Just to gloat (being first time owner and all)

i have done 701km and have quarter tank left, range shows 320km left and this is mixed driving with mostly town driving....

Hence i say, Diesels FTW!!!

Do tell?
Also your consumption is far better than mine, do you have the 18" or 19" wheels? I have the 19's and even put it in eco-pro mode to try and lower consumption on the longer trips, but can never get it below 5 :) I know I know 5 isn't bad, its what we'd call First World Problems haha

Car has the 255/35/19 RFT at back and 225/40/19 rft at front Bridgestone.
My car was also giving 4.8/4.9 till i made the change to my driving style.
Drive in EcoPro but run in manual mode. The Auto only changes to 8th at 92km/h wheras in manual you can shift up at 78km/h. Noticed how many town you get to with 80 speed limit so now you do it in 8th and not 7th asper auto.Believe me my consumption dropped straight away doing this.Never drive to slow if you do not have to.The gearbox has to work.Your Diesel is at its most efficient at 1800RPM.In 100km/h zones do 110km/h.Always use your range meter to determine whether you are doing better or worse. If you are driving better than your average shown the range to go will go up.

One more for those driving in hilly areas.Switch off your speed control on the down and on again when you get to bottom. With speed control on the car "brakes" far too much and this is all wasted energy.I like being part of the driving so all of these points are not a problem to me.

I only get +- 5.9 - 6.1 l/100Km thats only 850Km per tank. i dont drive her hard.

Thats exactly what I get when driving nice and calm. So is it our driving style or is it the car? This is my first diesel. So please any advice further would help. What speed do you guys travel in 120 zones and 60 zones. Do you use speed control or manual?. Where is the needle on the econo meter when traveling at 120 or 60?
