I only get +- 5.9 - 6.1 l/100Km thats only 850Km per tank. i dont drive her hard.

Thats exactly what I get when driving nice and calm. So is it our driving style or is it the car? This is my first diesel. So please any advice further would help. What speed do you guys travel in 120 zones and 60 zones. Do you use speed control or manual?. Where is the needle on the econo meter when traveling at 120 or 60?
These cars all come out the factory with same spec on ECU and then adapt to your driving style. So yes it is your driving style affecting the consumption. There are a number of people on this site who attain these low 4l/100.
A diesel works differently to a petrol. One of the first mistakes made is to feather the throttle to pick up speed.Watch your econometer and see it is better to give a bit more pressure and get to the next gear as soon as possible.Running in manual always allows one gear higher,so less fuel.At 60 drive 70 in manual(traps only at 71)and 7th gear will work.In auto econo the car uses 6th.Econo needle at 3l/100.As mentioned the most efficiency is at 1800rpm and this works perfect for 120km/h.So drive 120 for 120.Econo needle at 4l/100.
If the car starts to labour at any point the gearbox will automatically shift down so remember to shift up again manually. Also remember that the gearbox will shift down as you decellerate and then you have to manually shift up again.
Hope this is of help to you.

Ok did an experimant and drove to the speed limit and normal acceleration from robots. And I get the exact same. 5.9L/100km to 6.1 6.2L/100km. Maybe I should try a different fuel an see. What fuel are you guys using that are getting this amazing economy. Maybe post a video clip of the fuel economy gauge revs and speedo when you pull away so we can compare and see whats going on with our cars. What could be the cause for the higher consumption?
One thing I admit is I tend to feather the throttle for it was a habbit on my e90 325i. So I will try to avoid this in the next step

Also check how many km your daily trip is. My economy drops to the low 5l/100km only after about 14km of driving. Best I achieved was 4.3l/100km from PTA to Durban, but the relatively constant downhill assisted with this. From Durban to PTA was about 5.3l/100km.

Please don't get confused between open road and urban figures.Your aim open road low 4's and in town mid 5's. Also be patient as your ECU has to adapt to the better driving style. It takes at least a tank of fuel to get the parameters down to lower levels.
I don't think any of the fuel brands can lay claim to fame.

Some claim that Engen and Sasol 50 ppm are a cut above the rest but I have not noted any difference or am I missing something.

I had same results in economy on shell.engen, total and bp.
Tip for when driving in town. At stop for red light put your auto to neutral. This will stop wasted energy on torque converter.

Tell me do you have the power pack kit from BMW fitted on your car. Could you feel the difference. And what was the cost

I have a ppk kit on my F30 330d but will be testing a F320dppk for the local dealer shortly.

Are u filling 50ppm or 500ppm? Theres a difference in fuel consumptions depending what diesel u fill

Its a given that we talking of 50ppm.

There are many threads to read about as all this has been extensively discussed previously.

I do have the ppk, initially it was not easy to feel the difference, although my first impression was that the engine sounded a lot more refined. After dyno testing indicated 130kw at the wheels I was a bit more at ease. I paid R16k although on the 320d it may be slightly more? Also if you manage to sell your old intercooler and ecu you can recover a lot of the costs.

Just a correction to the above my car dyno'd at 136kw and not 130kw as above. Attached dyno graph here. http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=50566

Hi Guys

I recently did a trip From Centurion to East London in one Tank in my 320d i did 1100 kilometers and at some point my range was 1256km,and my consumption ranged between 4.7L and 5.1L,the only time i crossed the 120km mark was when a bmw overtook me two of them to be exact 320i and 320d both F30's lol....but overall i was flippen impressed by my cars consumption hey,i guess the extra 2 gears on the F30 do give it the advantage.

Got 4.8l/100km last year driving mostly 130km/h. Lots of stop/go's:bangdesk:

I must say the economy on the F30 is really nice. I only get about 1050km, in normal traffic and driving to and from work, on a tank before the reserve indicator comes on. I took a trip to Zambia, Livingstone via Windhoek and Botswana, Nata and drove at about 115-120km/h and got an average consumption of 18.5km/l on the computer, that's about 1000km's on 54lts. I drive a 2006 320D M-pack with 255/40/17" continental runflats.

Roughly 10km start/stop driving almost daily and the odd weekend leg stretch I'm averaging 6.3l/100km, open road giving it beans most of the way best I got was 5.1. I'm still chuffed as the 323 was more than double that :)

This is more like what i get. but i thought maybe since my gearbox is 8speed sport with adaptive driving would increase my consumption, and also my rear tires are wider 255 which will require more work to pull. But 4.2 is still awesome. i am averaging about 6-6.5, the lowest i got was also around 5, but those horses in there sometimes complain and want to be unleashed. I get about 850 km per tank.

I'm so happy I moved from petrol to diesel...the amount of torque is amazing and not to mention the consumption!
Nice figures on the F range BMW's!!!

Eish u guys are greedy! Wants more than the best of both sides!
Haha, I think less worrying and more driving should be implemented here:thumbs::biglol:
