These cars all come out the factory with same spec on ECU and then adapt to your driving style. So yes it is your driving style affecting the consumption. There are a number of people on this site who attain these low 4l/100.Iceman007 said:Errol said:I only get +- 5.9 - 6.1 l/100Km thats only 850Km per tank. i dont drive her hard.
Thats exactly what I get when driving nice and calm. So is it our driving style or is it the car? This is my first diesel. So please any advice further would help. What speed do you guys travel in 120 zones and 60 zones. Do you use speed control or manual?. Where is the needle on the econo meter when traveling at 120 or 60?
A diesel works differently to a petrol. One of the first mistakes made is to feather the throttle to pick up speed.Watch your econometer and see it is better to give a bit more pressure and get to the next gear as soon as possible.Running in manual always allows one gear higher,so less fuel.At 60 drive 70 in manual(traps only at 71)and 7th gear will work.In auto econo the car uses 6th.Econo needle at 3l/100.As mentioned the most efficiency is at 1800rpm and this works perfect for 120km/h.So drive 120 for 120.Econo needle at 4l/100.
If the car starts to labour at any point the gearbox will automatically shift down so remember to shift up again manually. Also remember that the gearbox will shift down as you decellerate and then you have to manually shift up again.
Hope this is of help to you.
