F30 320d fuel consumption concerns

Diesels are always going to suck for short trips as you end up finishing your trip before it's even properly warm. Go for a long trip and maybe switch down a gear or two from normal and cruise at a fairly high rpm for at least 10 min. After that reset it on a highway and see what it says.

Remember that temp gauge in an F30 is not water temp its actually oil temp. If you go into the hidden functions you will observe the water temp is on temp:RedNo: long before the oil temp

Cool thanks for info Iceman, yeah I struggle to read the hidden info on the small screen urgh and that stalk scrolling is not ideal wish we could get it on the main screen! As a side note I got on average 7l/100km in traffic in Eco pro driving normally. The past 2 weeks I kept the car in Sport+ and the box in DS with no auto stop start and I can report 8l/100 for the same trips driving much harder than usual.. Epic consumption from this car even when flooring it 24/7

thanks again for the advice herein.
I believe the problem was a combination of the DPF being clogged and me driving mostly short distance (i.e. 1km to work).

I let the vehicle warm up and drove the vehicle hard for a bit. Then reset trip computer whilst on freeway; and it settled on 5L/100km (even with a bit of local driving around the neighbourhood thereafter).
I tend to also believe that these 320d's are a bit heavy for stop and go; regardless of whether the engine is at optimum temperature.

So guidelines for anyone experiencing the same problem as me:

• Try to avoid lots of stop and go
• Drive the car hard (once at optimum engine temperature) to clear the DPF
• Reset the trip computer after a lot of local driving to obtain a true reflection of current fuel consumption.

My X3 2.0d when driven by my wife sits at 8l/100km local short runs, I am on 8.9l/100km. Longer runs I get to about 6l/100km driving decently.
