Went for a drive in the car and decided not to advance with the purchase. Maybe i'm used to my f30 330d but these were my impressions.
FOR
1) car is very solid
2) depends on taste but i think a better looking car than the F30
3) no wind noise and much quiter than F30
4) more standard options than F30 even in this exclusive model.
5) 2litre 180kw motor much quieter than expected and adequate.
6) I cruised at 100 and OBC was showing 4,9L/100. Phenomenal.
7) in a straight line on smooth surfaces very comfortable.
AGAINST :thumbdo:
1) Steering very vague.Ratio is all wrong it takes a lot of turn on the steering wheel to go in the direction you want to.
2) Changing lanes takes far too much effort.
3) Car has far too much body roll.
The whole point of wanting this car was to soak up the bad road surfaces but i"m afraid this one fails the test.Maybe on the autobahns but not for me on our bad roads.
The dealer offered an incredible deal monetary wise but buying a bargain is not always the best solution.
You'd probably want to delve into the options list of adaptive suspension and steering to get the handling you want but for that you'd have to order your model from the factory, I doubt you'd find a 528i with them fitted. Or an M-sport model, but that defeats the point of a cruiser a bit while the others will make the car better all round. But taking into account the cost of the facelift, and the massive cost of those options, it's at a whole different price level. The facelift also really offers no real improvement on the car so it can't really be justified.
It rides about the same on the standard 18" wheels as the E60 530i did on it's 17" wheels. But yes the bodyroll and vague steering is there. Love to cruise in my moms, but isn't half the car to drive hard as the F20 125i M sport is.
3 series is somewhere in the middle. But all round the F10 is a massive step up in luxury, although usable space is disappointing given the size and lack of spare wheel.
That 2.0T engine is great though, although the smoothness of the 3.0l 6 is missed. But the car is a lot faster than the E60 530i. In fact it's very closely matched to the F20 125i... which should have been a 128i given its the same engine but was just detuned for marketing:argh:
