F25 X3 motorplan extensions

Hi all

Want to get some opinions. I have a 2014 F25 2.0i with around 42k on the clock. Motorplan will expire 31/01/2019.

I got a quote to extend for a year for 19.5K. Is it worth it? The way i see it i will get an oil service and break pads front and rear in the next year.

Are there any alternative warranties that are any good? I have had a SA warranties one a few years ago and that was a bit of a disaster

I also might end up selling it before then but with current markets i cannot see that happening

Thanks

Only significant issue. You will loose 20% of the book value if the car is no longer under plan

Depends if you’re planning to keep the car or sell it… I agree having MP will hold value. But if you’re planning to keep the car and still do low mileage, it’s not worth paying R19.5k when you’re only going to do R8k in services in a single year.

When we bought ours, I chose not to extend the motorplan. What we did do though was take out a 2year aftermarket warranty (SA Warrantees).

I'm a DIY guy, and to date I've done almost all the maintenance and servicing on the car myself.

Then earlier this year, the waterpump said howzit. There were some issues with SA warranties not honouring the claim, because the vehicle had not been serviced by BMW / RMI approved service centre.

That being said, I think my savings in labour costs over the past 2 years has been more than what the warranty cost. So it's not a complete loss.

If you're going to take it to a dealer for servicing etc, then I would say get the aftermarket warranty. It's about 10-12k, and see it as "insurance" for if a big ticket item goes.

Other than that, regular maintenance items cost about the same as a 3 series etc.
