Why can't BMW build proper cars anymore?

For every troublesome car you hear about there are thousands that go trouble-free.
Still a fan

I'm also a fan, but when you hear about engines barely lasting till the end of m/plan, what will the future hold for these cars? I certainly would not buy a newer model BMW out of plan.

We have two 320i f30s, 2013 models in the family, both needed new oil pumps and one got a new clutch.

For the price you pay for one, it's unacceptable IMO.

Latest update seems they don't need to source engines from Germany as they have stock in their warehouse so this confirms the problem is big.

Reviving a slightly old thread.

So just got a call from autobahn just now, my car also needs a new oil pump. They are giving me a loan 1 series, so I guess I cant complain too much. I just hope it doesn't take weeks to sort out, they have to strip it and then based on the findings will decide what to replace.

How did it come to light you need to change the oil pump?
Recall, or was it bothering you?

Hmm seems to be a trouble.. sorry man..

On the engine replacement, under maintenance plan it's for the life of your maintenance plan, so replace it at 80k you have 20k out of it + the factory warranty I guess.. Out of plan, I don't know, standard warranty only I guess?

They had mine for a few days, then replaced just the oil pump.

I'm waiting to hear from them now. Not sure how long it take to get it all sorted out before they order the pump and get going.

I don't know if that is a good thing or not. I had my block changed so had to have engine numbers changed. I am told whole bottom end get's replaced i.e. it includes pistons etc. I am not complaining car is moving beautifully, turbo was changed as well as diff. Mine was don at around 30 000 so I practically have a new car haha.

Good luck, if it's the pump only it should not take long, but depends if they get it from Rosslyn/another dealer in time.. :coolShake:

Hmm yeah the 320d got a new block.. Police clearance, new licence, insurance updates, urgh all that stuff.. Was not fun :thumbdo:

So got a call this morning. Metal shavings in the oil. So they are going to replace the engine. Not sure how long the wait is going to be. I'm hoping not longer than a month. The 118i they gave me in the mean time is ok. It's drives well enough, surprisingly quick. Only gripe is it isn't an M sport so crappy seats that offer very little side support and not sure if I'm mental or what but the seats also feel harder to me. I'm grateful to autobahn though. Did not expect a loaner so thumbs up to Bev , you are awesome.

The engine has been ordered but it's coming from Germany. Lead time 10, 14 days en then how ever long it takes to fit it.

At least new engine, turbo and all the bits and bobs.
Like a brand new car without the new leather smell :tiptoe:

Yup. It's kinda awesome. Pity about the new car smell tho. Well if they gave me the option I would have taken the cost of the replacement as a deposit on a new car. But ja, guess it doesn't work like that.

Strange as I was told they have a local warehouse with engines, maybe they buying time as there might be a backlog with so many motors giving issues. Guess you dealing with dealership :skit:
