Legacy, if the MAF that Willem gives me to try doesn't sort the problem then I think we should continue to look elsewhere for the problem.
THe reason why he thinks its the MAF is cause when we tested the car we unplugged it, and then the idling jumping stopped, so the logical conclusion is that it has to be the sensor. :dunno:

Chris, if I switch on the heater without having the AC on then the windows fog up, so you need to keep the AC on with the temp set to hot.

took all the engine covers off and found a hole in the one vacuum pipe for the pcv fitted a new pipe... lets see if the problem comes back...

i hope it was the problem :rollsmile: only time will tell paying R30 for a pipe is way better than R1000 for a maf...

I hope it sorts the problem, mine got a bit better with each day and after 3 or so it was perfect, ran like when it came from the factory. Not sure why it did that though.

I have the new MAF installed, will see what the car does tomorrow morning.
If it still jumps the revs, then I will ask Willem who sells the spares, who infact is also a qualified bmw mech, to help me to open up the covers and look for the problem.

it could have been adjusting A/F the car does feel good now... it was having off days performance wise... after fitting the pipe it did fell like it was having one of the good days :rollsmile:

Have you had the codes read yet ?

Had the same problem on the M5, and ended up being a oxygen sensor.

The up/down rev thing is caused by over fuelling and a rich mixture.

Try not to drive the car like that as the excess fuel will wear the cylinder bores if left too long.

Guys, thanks for all the help and advice, here is the update...
So yesterday we stripped off the entire intake system, and checked EVERYTHING.
We checked all the pipes and parts, and found that the problem is the Idle Control Valve, http://www.bmwpartsweb.com/BMW-Part...3325328330__13411744713-BOSCH-ID-BEBB284.aspx
I will let you guys know what the price is going to be, because they did not have the part, so at the moment we refit the problem part after cleaning it properly.
The problem is better, but the revs still jump around a bit, at least the car doesn't want to die when I stop at the robot anymore.
