Ethanol on a stock 135i?

I run E20 in my car factory stock with no issues besides pulling like a train :whip:

Yes, but is it better with more than 20 %?
Have you run say 15 % and was it definitively inferior to 20 %?

1SickG6, do you log your car?

Sorry for the late response...some of us have to work :=):

Let me answer it in this way.
The recommended octane on our stock turbo cars is 100 RON or higher. We seldom use this quality of fuel on our stock cars due to the unavailability of 100Ron at pump stations.

At the pumps we stuck with 95 and in some cases 98. Some stations may even be as low as 93.

So our options are: Fuel additives such as NOS octane boosters or NF octane additives. NF concentrate can up octane nicely to 100+ RON.

But we have found that ethanol even in low quantities are a real power booster. Unfortunately, we unable to verify what octane increase various power boosters give such as NF, witches brews or ethanol since we don't have expensive RON octane equipment available to test. Dyno testing and data logging do go a long way in helping us to see the gains we make with various additive fuels.

Increasing octane on a stock car will make a difference and the ecu will adapt accordingly. We will never know the difference nor the gains if we don't experiment. Starting off with 7 Liters of ethanol mixed with 25 Liters of pump fuel is a low percentage of ethanol. Ethanol also dilutes pretty quickly with pump fuel after a run or two. Even if the concentration is too strong adding additional pump fuel to it will quickly reduce the concentration.

Yes, I started off with 7 Liters quite a few years back when most x35 owners were scared to experiment. I currently run a 85% mix with a tune as I have shown in some of my threads on the forum.

Agreeing with Twin

I really disagree with both you and Twinz.
Drama's car is stock.
I can't see it requiring so much (28-29 %) ethanol.

But real world experience does count...
Even so, allow me to seek clarification:
Twinz is that really your recommendation for a stock car?

NA whats that?

Good race fuel will certainly help NA motors add a tune to it to optimise fueling:thumbs:

Lol Twinz!! :)

Thanks, maybe I'll start with octane boosters.

Stick to NF Ultra, it's a concentrate........ The others are known to foul plugs with continued use, especially the Black NF bottle......

Ethanol distributors are mainly in the south of JHB.
On a stock car, as stated by Chris, the gains aren't big or THAT noticeable other than more torque low down (which is noticeable), the power up top you will only see when matched against a car running straight pump. A car with PPK (1 or 2) responds better to NF than a factory stock car. (Myself and BMW135i have tested this).
On a tuned car (such as JB4 or flash tune) the results are dramatic to say the least!

A safe mix is the mix as recommended by Twinz (7l eth to 25l pump). Lots of logs and time has proven that these cars respond well to additional octane.
Running 1/2 bottle NF ULTRA to 20l pump fuel really does see a nice jump in the cars performance.
5l eth to 20l pump fuel is a nice mix for both stock and especially for tuned cars. More aggressive mixes can be used when running flex fuel or backend flash.
OB1 is much the same as NF just with a greater quantity. I found OB1 to provide the same results as 5l eth (logged with my own 135i), but with the apparent cleaning benefits as claimed by the OB1 manufacturer.
A mix of OB1 and eth to pump fuel was FANTASTIC!!

In terms of tunes, the support (locally) and the info puts the JB4 ahead of everything in my personal opinion.
If you looking for a Harness A jb4 G5 ISO with flex fuel, I do currently have one.

In that case Twinz is the right one to speak to

I haven't tried 15. But I've tried 10, then 20 and then 10 again, the difference is noticeable in the midrange

Sorry for the CPR on my old thread. I've managed to get stock of ethanol (yes, this seemed difficult for me lol). As per Twinz advice, 7l eth to 25l pump on my stock car. How many litres of eth would be safe to a full tank of pump? E82 135i tank capacity is 52l.

I thought the 1 series had a 45L tank?
