Engine Coolant Level Warning Sign

Good day

The engine coolant level light (orange) on my E90 325i comes and go on different days. Do I just need to refill or does this mean there is a leak somewhere? Or something is about to go kaboom? If it's just a refill I need, do I mix with water and what's the ratio?

Car is 2011 E90 325 with 120k km on the clock.

Thank you

I would buy a bottle of coolant from bmw and tomorrow morning before you start the car open the reservoir and top up if necessary.

If you want to do it properly as you may have a bubble in your cooling system then connect the car up to a charger.

Put key into ignition and push start engine without hitting the brake so the ignition turns on but the car doesn't start. Make sure your cabin climate control is set to full heat and fan is set to the lowest setting, turn off headlights then depress your accelerator pedal to the full WOT settings, if its an auto make sure its pushed all the way down till you click the kick down switch and then hold it down for 12 seconds.

Open the coolant expansion tank lid and you should hear your water pump start working, top up the coolant if necessary till the float is at the second ball indicating that its full, let the process run for 12 minutes which is its full cycle if the coolant needs topping up again once this is done then top it up, which means you probably had air in the system.

put it all back together and start the car and drive for a couple of days and then when engine is cold check it again in a couple days, if its low again then you have a leak.

Are you losing coolant?

After how many days do you have to refill?

I have never refilled before. The warning light comes and go on different days. Yesterday it was on the whole day and today it's gone.
