Absolute legend man, wish I had the guts to just replace a foglight bulb let alone strip the interior! :coolShake:

Nah man, it's just like stripping anything else; Just be real careful and meticulous about storing screws and bits that come off. It's also a great opportunity to clean all the hard to get spot before assembly.

Hallo Gert,

Can your brother do a decat for my E46, and if so how much will he charge more or less?

Hey Gerbrandt, I already checked and he's not into doing privates hey. Hes got his plate full at the moment. His words were something along the lines of "if he had to charge for what his time is worth it won't be affordable" :roflol:

Eish, so he does not have a shop?

I've been thinking towards some factory mods to add to the car...

I've been too scared to drive the car with DTC off, but i found the normal nanny mode to be waaaay too intrusive. It's either grandma mode or death mode, nothing in between.

So I'm going to jump for an M drive upgrade. Really nothing to it, just change the steering stalk unit that had the M mode electronics and code the car, this is an option using Ista/P. Gonna pop past a few scrappy's to see if I can find one.

No need to go for the EDC upgrade either, it works without the Dynamic dampers, nor do you need I-drive for it to work. I'll also look for an M button off the donor wheel so it looks stock. Based on what I read this far it's what the ///M was always meant to be for all those that didn't jump for the M-Dynamic package.

Can't wait!

I've also figured out how to read the cars past history, like highest speed done, the amount of times the car was redlined and the highest rpm the motor has done. My stats show highest rpm to be 8612rpm, 212rpm over max. So yes, the car was driven hard but there were no money shifts. Reaching 9000rpm would've been a serious problem. I also see that the car has been redlined 243 times and spent a total of 41seconds in the redline during its lifetime. This is all very, very good news as far as the health of the motor is concerned.

Oh yes, it has reached a max speed of 254km/h when the car was on 86k km. in Ista/P I can turn off the max speed limiter should I want to. But I seriously don't have the need to do that as I don't have the balls to go that far. For others that do, PM me and I'll assist ;)

41 seconds of redline is nothing!
You have a gem there. I think the max rpm could be a once off possibly accelerating downhill with the hitting the rev limiter and intertia pushing it over...

With that said, are you going to do the bearings? I think they may still look relatively new!

What's more critical is not how many times its been redlined, but what sort of load the engine experienced during its oil warm up phase! Is there a way to see this?

Nah, I don't think it logs that, at least not what I've found. I will scratch around some more tho.

I will be doing the bearings but purely as a precaution. And I know it's the first thing I should do, but I know me. Once that is going to be done I won't stop stripping till the whole motor is apart :blueCry:

Wow ista really is powerfull. Would love to see those details. I know I have redlined my a couple of times in the beginning by mistake. Due to m button.

I was under the impression that all M cars have the M button, all I can say is you won't regret it. It's the funnest button in the car.

Hehe, this data is not available through Ista. Pretty weird but true. I'll show you tomorrow how I did it using other tools to get this data.

One of the things that is still letting this car down is the scratches in the paintwork, especially on the boot area. I've already worked the car with Scholl 17 and a Scholl purple pad, but some panels were too far gone for this medium compounding scheme.

After talking to Fuzz and Vish from AF, it was suggested that I go with Scholl S3 and a white spider pad. This came with a warning that I must be careful, but i figured I've got nothing to lose as the next step was getting the bad panels re sprayed.

One of the other issues is that there was some pretty deep scratches along the back where the boot spoiler meets the boot. So the spoiler had to be removed and I managed to do this using thin fishing line to 'cut' the adhesive the spoiler is attached with.

Well, seems like I'm lucky so far. Check some of the pics of the boot:

Thx man,

I've been taking it easy so far, doing little by little as I sometimes need to cover an area twice and I'm going real slow. This way, I don't get gatvol towards the end and take shortcuts. I've done the whole back of the car so far, right to the rear wheel arches. I'll do a little more tonight as just the bootlid took me almost 2 hours.

I also found 3 new dings on the car that I didn't realise was there prior. Grrrrr! I'm playing with the idea of getting a PDR kit to remove these dents myself after seeing how easy it is to get done. And it's not that expensive, less than R2k for the puller and the little bits you glue on.

Some PDR info please, how large would you say is the largest one you can remove with this? Asking because I have two dents on my E30's bonnet about the size of two handpalms each.

Thanks,

GP
