e92 m3 motor plan cancelled

To sum it up, while driving, if you select a gear (any gear), release the clutch, and the engine revs up, higher than the rev limiter, that is regarded as an overrev.

It usually happens when going for a lower gear, than your current gear. Basically its because the incorrect gear for the road speed was selected.

Bmw picks up everything, they can even tell you how many times you farted in the car, at what speed and at what gear all this was done
Only if you have brown leather in your car.... :fencelook:

Bought it second hand, but have it for like 30 000km after purchasing it and they say its showing over rev 2000kms ago, so that means it only happen in my possession. So as u say about keeping foot on the gas near limiter then changing, can they cancel plan for that?

As per your first post "they don't want to replace my engine" I would say get a lawyer NOW, no use in arguing this by yourself. At the end of the day lawyer fees will be way cheaper than replacing the engine. Also them giving you a "proof" in the form of a graph isn't enough, I can easily pull up the same graph in Photoshop in less than an hour.

Maybe if your lucky you can let the lawyer fight for your expenditures as well.

Do u guys read fine print on the Mplan? Does it say that if u accidently over rev the car that they can cancel ur mplan? If its stated somewhere I will never buy such a vehicle. If it doesnt they can go f themselves, surely u can win this.

BTW I doubt a slight or even bad over rev should break an m car, seriously I have over rev`d my 16v opels plenty of times, once I went from 4th at 7500rpm to 3rd :), missed gears at 7500-7900 rpm no problems, and thats an opel.

I agree, get a lawyer, I am so glad I read this!!! Good Luck Guy!

Not long before we are all seen as idiots and the privilege of choosing what gear you are will be taken away. Manufacturer will be scared of putting anything in a car that could potentially cause damage. Like a steering wheel.
DO NOT pursue this claim, suck it up and pay for a new engine. BMW will see the financial benefit in manual cars by the number of new engines they get to sell to customers. And we will have manual cars forever.
IF you do pursue the claim, we will all be driving autonomous hybrids by the end of the year.

Hi guys, my M3 has picked up a bearing knock and bmw head office refuses to pay for the claim or replace engine in my car. They say the car was over revved about 2000km ago. Car does not have and never had software done to it at all. They say my motor plan will remain active but they are not gonna cover me for any major repairs like engine, gearbox and diff. I need some advice on how to handle this cause I can't take a loss for a car that has no modifications done to it and also why didn't they just cancel the entire plan instead of keeping it half active?

ah makes sense, i know a couple people who shifted from 4th to 2nd and it was not pretty at all.

So it can be said that changing from 3rd to 4th and missing "4th" altogether isnt an "over rev" in this context as an example but rather a drastic "4th to 2nd" scenario based on what 444YYY said?

PS: i thought bmw only picked up rev and speed being changed with sw?

Can I have a show of hands who have ever miss-shifted from 4th to 2nd??? It's not a throw shift? I must say I never have. I can understand 5th to second MAYBE...:fencelook:

From 4th back to third, instead of 5th is more likely. So red line 4th and then back to 3rd. :fencelook:

This has happend to me, in the 318 keeping in mind its a 2000 model , was testing top speed on a certain stretch tried going to 5th, eventually when it didnt want to go, i realised i was trying 2nd the whole time.

It never went in, tried jamming it in(wasn't looking and was inexperienced), at the end of the day i screwed up the clutch.

So cant see how you can get it in that way.

To money shift it doesn't have to be a drastic 2 gear jump but going 3-4 snap changing on the red line and finding 2nd will do it. I did it once with my old E30 325i, luckily I was not redlining at the time but wheel speed dragged the engine into the red and I clutched quickly... after removing my teeth from the steering wheel.

It is not something you don't notice happening.

never happened to me. I missed a gear altogether once or twice but never forced it into the wrong gear.

I know guys who have, 1 sentra sti, rockers all shattered.
1 i10 (dont ask)
toyota 20v (motor exploded)

etc.
