Maintenance update:

Car Oil Filter Housing Gasket was leaking so I purchased the Oil Cooler and Filter housing gaskets from Goldwagen. Total price was R210 for both.

Dropped the car off to get this sorted out and picked it up later that afternoon. One of the old gaskets was so brittle that it pretty much had to be 'cleaned out'.

Off I go and I had immediately noticed that the car had less power, and the gearbox shift points were all unusual. My first assumption was VANOS as it would not come in at around 3400rpm as usual. Anyway, I was told that the battery was disconnected during the time that the car was being worked on so I just let it be and assumed that it would 'relearn' everything over time.

Later that evening, I popped the bonnet open and had noticed that oil was still leaking (but slower than it initially was). I was still out at this point so whilst driving home - the car misfired randomly and almost wanted to switch off when I got to a stop. Luckily it didn't so I made a detour to my mech's place and swapped cars with him.

That sad moment when you drive away from your car:

Car was diagnosed again the next day and I was told that the oil cap itself was leaking as well so we got this swapped out (BMW wanted R680 for this but there was an E92 there that was being stripped - so I just paid the owner R200 and took his part :hammerhead: )

In addition to this, I had a 2A82 VANOS Intake error code:

A quick Google search pointed me to multiple threads in which people have experienced this error code after doing their OFHG. First guess was that it was incorrect oil pressure causing this (well, at least, that's what I thought). Long-story-short; the new cap made no difference to this so we had cleaned and swapped the solenoids, however the error just moved from the intake to the exhaust.

The next thing was to purchase another VANOS solenoid. BMW advised that it would be R2600. I bought the solenoid from Masterparts for R1200 and had it fitted.

Sounds a bit coincidental that I had this issue after sorting out the leaks (and it seems like a common occurrence based on the internet stats) but anyway I'm glad that my car is running fine again :smilebounce:

Very Coincidental . Did the mechanic charge you for labour on the fitment of the Vanos Solenoid seperate to the labour of gaskets?

No, he did not. My mech is a good buddy of mine so I just paid him more to cover labour as well (he had only charged me for the parts initially).

So, my worst update yet.

About 3 weeks ago I was on the way home from work. Stopped at the robots and waiting for my turn to go. Then BAM. A Merc CLA something-something AMG rear ends me...

To my surprise - the damage was very minimal. Got away with a few scratches and a dent or two on the rear bumper. My neck was absolutely KO'd for weeks though :eek:mgwaiting:

Had the car assessed by BMW ARC and some other place for insurance purposes (D-MAC?). I was told by both places that I just need to get the bumper sprayed and that the bumper reinforcements and whatever else is all still in order (thankfully).

Here is a pic for reference:

I haven't sent the car in to sort the damage out as yet. Paintwork always scares me (wouldn't want the next person to suspect anything bigger than the issue at hand) and I've never had to respray any parts of the car before so still deciding how I should go about sorting it out for now...

Other than that - my brakes have been screeching/squeaking and not performing too well. I was told that my front disks were glazed (?) so they skimmed them. After the bedding process, the brakes feel great again and don't make those horrible sounds anymore.

Sorry to hear about that inconvenience

but agree with jeremy, it seems really small, like a trolley nudged the car in a parking lot

Fixed for you..

In all honesty, glad it was a small incident, could've been much worse.. Like not having a car for 4 months, or worse :hammerhead:

Thanks, gents. I guess it is small and could be worse. Just disheartening when it happens to something that you try to look after and keep clean.

The lady that rear ended me literally said "I thought that you were going to go" and this was at a robot where I was stopped :eek:mgwaiting: . I fail to understand how that's even possible even IF the robot was green. Seemed like a common occurrence to her though :hammerhead:

But anyway, I think I now have a good reason to paint my diffuser in gloss black :smilebounce:

This is the exact same thing that happened to me with the 330i, I almost punched the ballie at that point. Luckily your damage is quickly repairable.

Gloss black diffuser sounds good, get another lip as well.

At that point in time I was just over it. Damage was already done. The amount of kak dis bish is giving me though - makes me wonder why I was so polite :=):

Anyway, I've been wanting to get another lip for a while now but I am trying to source an Arkham lip. Seems hard to find one though so I may just replace it with the same one that I had previously.

Haha, I actually was about to throw the punch but his wife threw herself in front of him :roflol: Just told him to F.O to one side while I calm down.. In hindsight, for all the trouble he ended up giving me, I should've punched him when his wife wasn't looking.

Oh no the car is badly damaged and its a write off there is no other way... what are you going to do...

I know, Start a thread on the B8.5 and forget about the E92 :fencelook:

:roflol: JK

Sorry buddy, It does suck when you take care of your property and then someone damages it. But accidents do happen and fortunately this was not a bad one. I think gloss black diffuser would look the business.

October 2018 Update:

Car went to SMG Umhlanga for the blower motor/wiring recall earlier this week and they did the oil service while the car was there. Was a few 1000kms early but I wanted to get it done in one-go.

Happy that they found no issues with the car other than some front outer tyre wear (not bad - but not consistent with the centre and inner). However I want to get the ball joints/bushings checked out as I am not too happy with the handling of the car and a slight shimmy) [control arms/shocks were done not too long ago so it can't be that].
