Hi guys... Im in the process of doing up a e36 316i fully.... Father had it from brand new and decided to give it a make over with the full works of the m3 kit... M3 rim.. Coilovers... Ox blood interior and custom sound.... The problem is the power is not there... I have a friend who had a 320d e92 accident case vehicle and was considering of doing a drive train swap.... I dont want to go too big as its just a show car and sentimental value to us ..... Im not sure if the chasis can handle the torque.... Any advice???

Welcome! I can understand that the car has great sentimental value. It won't be easy likely due to electronics as well... But indeed.. A TDI e36 ... makes me think of the rare 325tds..

Its possible to do, that does not mean you should.

It wont be a simple case of motor trans plant and a couple of wires, suspension, drive train, diff, brakes, cluster wont fit in the dash, aircon conversion, pigeon holder, none of it will work.

If you do want an enginnering challange, go for it, and prepare for about 500 hours if not more of work, which at the end of the day you cant sell cause its a franken car.

Your also crossing over in bus technology, non of the bus systems are the same, electronics will be a nightmare,

Like when your girlfriends mother says its game on, or her uncle tells you to drink the coolaid, you could, seems like a good idea, but it really is is not.

You will be better off with a 1J or 2J conversion, at least thats documented somewhere...

Anything can be done with enough time, money and balls.
