Took my ///M to the coast for the Durban July. Total fuel spend, just under R7000 :roflol: I actually find it funny. Thats over about 1300km covered in total.

Best feeling ever!!

I have taken both the E90 and E92 M3 down to Durbs on a full tank, got to Queensburgh with about 60km on the range, and no I wasn't driving like a granny, I wasn't driving like I stole it though too.

Only car I could never get to DBN on a full tank was the X5M.

My typical DBN trip I use 3 full tanks and cover about 1500kms return.

Went down to north coast (Ballito) in X4 3.0D, was between 1/4 and 1/2 when I got there. Must add I had the cruise control on and drove through the night, took 6 hours though.

Not bad at all, took the X3 2.0d down and was there in "under" 5 hours, was on slightly less than half a tank left, the diesels are amazing on the longer trips.

I raise you, 2015 X5 50d UP TO JHB and got there with 1/2 tank on the head, done in "under" 5 hours too:rollsmile:

This is starting to sound like a challenge.....I am impressed with the performance of the bigger diesels on the way up.

Jokes aside
These new diesel motors are a technological marvel
They are also so silent these days. Not sure if the 10ppm diesel has anything to do with that. But I do think mb has some catching up to do cause I heard the new e350d Idle and it was not smooth nor quite
Sorry op for the side track

maybe we should start some thing like that : make it the trip needs to be 300km + and add ave speed and consumption and model. Will make one and see how it goes.

Did the same route in my 320d (I know its nowhere in the league of you guys big machines). Got home with little more than half a tank left, under 5 hours. Averaged 5.1l/100km.

In that case, trip to South Coast plus running around ect total mileage 400km incl return leg, 4.7L/100km, E90 LCi 320d

Quick question on this. The consumption figures quoted are these as per the dash readout or calculated with fill up?

Reason is that in my experience the dash readout is a little optimistic....

If you fill the tank to the first "click", drive say about 100km (if you can find a filling station exactly 100km's apart all the better) then fill up again to the first "click". Divide litres by km travelled and multiply by 100 it will probably be slight higher litres / 100km than what the dash reading says.....

My personal experience on my 320d was if the readout said for example 5.3l/100km on a long trip (which was quite common) the actual calculated usage based on the example above was around the 5.7l/100km mark.

You will probably find VW products being much more accurate:crazylaugh::crazylaugh:

Took the V10 down to Durbz, filled up in JHB got to Harrismith with half a tank, filled up again got to Ballito and was sitting on half a tank. Cruising between 130-150km/h. Computer says was doing around 13.9l/100km.

I presume if I was cruising at 120km/h my economy would be much better but I was chasing my Pops X6M:hammerhead:. All in all was around R2800 for fuel there and back. Used the car once when there otherwise a golf cart was main mode of transport.

Funny. I found my E39s obc to be perfectly accurate. 95% of the what it said and what my fuelly said was the same. The E60 is more optimistic though
