That's really crap to hear. I've been with Santam for ages (business and personally)... I've claimed a bakkie, 2 bike accidents and my Focus ST that I wrote off at around 4:30am.

Never once were any questions asked. Everything was simply "sign here, sign here" and it was sorted.

I would hold back on fixing the vehicle. Contact the Ombudsman, make the insurance pay the full R160k and get that car back to it's original condition and also refund you the other money for storage.

I know how frustrated you must be. If they can't prove anything, they must pay, PERIOD. Just be patient, you'll be fine.

My wife works for Santam, they hate any negative media and are very brand conscious.
They are also one of the only insurers that do not have a specific department for repudiating claims, so I'm very surprised to hear that they are trying to mess u around. After all, they are supposed to be insurance good and proper.
Put up a post on hellopeter or contact the ombudsman before u carry out any repair work. That will grab their attention and force them to fix, just to keep u happy.
Also, if u got your cover through a broker... Make sure he knows how pissed off you are, he is also able to pull some strings no matter what amount they are able to authorize.

But definitely, start making waves and see how quickly they'll start jumping.

Thanks mate. I've been dealing with them for years and they've been nothing short of brilliant. This time it's left a very bitter taste in my mouth I have to say. Like I said, they were trying to find any reason not to pay.

I'm hatching a plan though.

I agree with you there. I actually remember one claim of mine was delayed. I tweeted about them, and not even directly at them. They probably ran a search for anything that mentioned Santam,

I got a call from them and everything was sorted in 48hrs. DON'T GIVE UP!!!!

So M6 will be a thing of the past on Monday. Had an awesome 2.5 years with it. Anyone who can afford the running costs should definitely do themselves a favour, and get a V10 somewhere along the line. Awesome car, you'll love it.

Sad to see her go. But alas, time to move on.
