**Picture heavy post**

**swirls were harmed in the making**

So a major issue with the car (for me) since I took ownership was the condition of the paintwork, there were signs of total neglect and bad washing techniques... But nothing that could not be rescued.

The paintwork was fully decontaminated before pulling the car into the garage to begin the surgery

When tackling machine polsihing of any kind, the most important step is to know what you are working with, and what you would like to achieve. In this case I was working with extremely soft JB paint, and the desired result was minor paint correction and clear coat preservation.

With this in mind, I reached for my Rupes LHR 15 MK2, CarPro finishing pads and 3D HD speed, which is an all-in-one product. I knew there would still be deeper defects left behind, but I chose to preserve as much clear coat as possible while still achieving a good finish and a car that presents well.

I ran a small test spot which confirmed my product choice was right on the money!

From here, I worked one panel at a time until I reached the desired finish

It was after this that I had a new appreciation for Jerez Black! Amazing colour when the clear coat is well taken care of! The paint started coming alive..

@gavsadler yeah the wheel definitely needed a decon! I'm having the work done by Dubcorp in Durban.. The owner has been a mate for a while now, quality workmanship always.

Kyle what product and process did you use to clean the steering wheel? It looks awesome!

Blikskottel! That looks so good. When can I bring my car to you...I also want mine to look like that! I am not very clued up about the detailing business, paint correction, decontamination, clear coats, nano coats and the jargon I read on detailers websites etc. From what I know, you polish, glaze and then wax to protect. Doing what you did, how long will it stay like that and how do you wash it to keep it that way? I desperately want my car to be done to end up like yours, but scared to spend the money and then after the first wash it looks the same again. But again, your car looks amazing man, well done.

@Salt, please do not include the same pictures when replying as it makes an already pic heavy page, even heavier for no reason and makes load time slower.

Hey bud, thanks for the kind words... You are absolutely correct in saying that it's a bit of a waste to invest the money in getting your paint sorted only to visit the local car wash afterwards.

To be honest, proper paint care is a commitment, there are certainly times where my car was filthy due to not having the time to wash it and I wished I would just pop by the car wash during lunch, but knowing the kind of damage that MOST car washes cause, I stay far away. My advice would be to start with proper wash techniques and once you bed that down, invest the money in a proper detail.

Here's a vid outlining the proper process -
