Update:
I finally managed to source a N54 intercooler from a fellow forum member after being on the lookout for quite some time. This is a mod for piece of mind more than anything else really.
Apparently the cooler is about 30% bigger and it was a straight forward DIY, so wasn’t a bad project for a Monday afternoon.
I obviously cleaned and thoroughly rinsed the N54 cooler properly before fitting. The overall condition of the cooler is pretty good with normal pit marks and the odd bent fin.
Before fitment I also purhased hot and cold side seals to ensure I don’t have any boost leaks etc.
The cleaned cooler:
As always a bit of a mission to get the car on the ramps without scratching anything...
The OEM cooler was removed by removing the belly pan, unclipping the hot and cold side boost pipes’
circlips and loosening a torx bolt on either side of the cooler. N54 cooler was installed and the belly pan etc. was replaced.

The N54 cooler no longer sits flush at the bottom of the radiator housing as it is taller than the stock cooler:
After fitting the cooler I took the car to Keithan for xHP stage 2 gearbox flash. It annoys me to no end that I didn’t do the gearbox flash sooner as it really made a major difference in how the car drives. S mode is phenomenal, but what I really wanted was smoother and better shifts in D mode as well as getting rid of the CVT feeling on pull off - stage 2 took care of all of this.
