Hi guys

So started her up this morning, pulled her out the garage and the Temporary Engine Malfunction light (The one that is half full sign and not full yellow) pops up(yellow= temporary) if it was red, the car wouldn't move. The car is driving fine, has a little shudder on the clutch release and BMW On Call says that the car will lose power as I drive it more. Took it straight to Club Motors Randburg cause they the closest dealer.

Has anyone experienced this before and what could be the possible causes?I hate being without my BMW and it hasn't even been an hour yet.

TIA

Howsit guys! no news from the dealership yet, i am getting a bit miffed but with my research, and looking up, and found what could be the problem, and this brilliant help came from tunetech.co.za(not surprised).

all the symptoms are there, high fuel consumption, little loss of power, and then lastly, the yellow EML light with the warning of drive car conservatively to your nearest dealer....all this leads to the VVT Motor failing. According to tunetech, BMW actually claim a 10% decrease in fuel consumption once fixed.

i am really hoping an praying it is this, because then it is estimated to be a one day MAXIMUM job and i can get my baby back soon.

That's good to hear! So new VVT motor supplied and fitted by BMW, this means your have a 2 year warranty on this, so if it fails within this period you are still covered!

Thanks guys!

the total costs were around R8300-00. they did my rear brakes, vehicle check, and the full costs of the VVT motor with labour and such.

the car is driving totally different, it has power that it never had ever before and it feels more free. quite a difference i must say, didnt know it had affected the car for so long.

i happy about motorplan and especially the warranty, as Philip as mentioned:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

Hi guys. Got an engine noise when on 1500rpm only when engine is cold. Local mechanic says its the vvt motor coming up on diagnostics. I had a new vvt motor fitted last year march by bmw. How long is the warranty. Anyone had the same rattle type of sound at 1500rpm. No engine management light on dash. When I start her up, she has erratic idle for around 5 seconds then idles okay.
