E90 320d Whining noise

When I had a whining sound coming from my E90.... i told her to get out of the car :fencelook:

P.s. Whining sound used to start after 160km/h, got progressively louder with speed until it was unbearable after 200+km/h

I doubt the turbo is on its way out, I have a 330d and its always made that sound when its cold, I have been in other 330d when they are cold and make the same sound.

My gf's dads Vito makes the same sound when its cold as well.

I also thought my turbo was on its way out so I got it check out and the turbo is 100%. I honestly wouldn't worry about it but if you are worried then take it to bmw to get checked but it will be difficult since the car will be warm by the time you get there.

I'm not certain if its the same sound I was having on my E90 320d. I've posted the details here: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=30009

For me, the sound is more like a chirping sound, more than a whine and it did go away after a few km of driving. In short, it was a pulley that needed replacing and I had it replaced twice. Dealers said it was due to manufacture fault or something like that.

But like the other gentlemen have said on this thread, take your car to your nearest BMW dealership and ask them to check it out. They should be able to tell you just by listening to the sound. But be aware that if they can't hear it when you bring it in, they might request to keep the car overnight to hear the sound it makes on a proper cold start.

Cheers and keep us posted, especially if the problem isn't the pulley/belt that needs replacing.

sounds like the turbo on your sound clip but could likely be something else ... have bm check it out under MP but hopefully they dont give you a BS story
