E90 320d Whining noise

No more waiting for Randburg :fishwack:
Car is booked in at Auto Alpina Boksburg , taking it this afternoon so that they can hear it tomorrow morning. 10 points to them for good service.

Picked mine up yesterday afternoon
noise is gone and car is smooth and much quieter.

Auto Alpina Isando sorted it for me.
Got to to do the alignment as well which costed more than the pulley and vbelt which motorplan paid for.

Howzit guys, so the dealership contacted me. New Turbo needed.
The turbo should be there tomorrow and hoping to get the car back tomorrow afternoon. They are also checking my air filter and loading the latest gearbox software.

Well its awsome that your getting a new turbo!

BMW love giving people new shit cause they get money out of it! I can bet my left ball that your turbo is 100%. If it isnt then my turbo should have exploded ages ago :)

But regardless at least now you have piece of mind

my turbo makes the same sound when cold..but was more audible in winter..once warmed it goes away..my dealer tells me theres nothing wrong with it..I do find it odd how different dealers come to different conclusions about problems..I do have a vid clip..gonna figure out how to make it smaller and upload it :(

The thing is I have no idea how the previous owner drove the car, don't think he did the warming up and cooling down procedure .

Well I showed the service advisor the post Twincam Shark posted and he attached it to the job card so I'm sure they looked at the belt and pully first.
So far I'm impressed with the Service department at Boksburg.

this is how my turbo sounds when cold..when it warms up it gets quieter or disappears..is this normal...according to my dealer it is....... :fencelook:

[video=youtube]

if anyone knows a dealership manager etc that I can forward this clip to and get an opinion..please pm me..thank you :)

yup that's pretty normal, if it didn't sound like that I would be worried as it probably means they put a miniscule turbo in your car and wrapped it up with some serious heat resistant tape to sound proof the thing!

If they replace the turbo with a brand new turbo I recon it will be quite for a few days or weeks as everything is still stiff and needs to be run in and loosen up but once its all run in and running smoothly I recon the little cold spin up sound will be back...such an awesome sound! love hearing my turbo spool and dump!

thanx osiris...just checkin for last minute things to be done before MP quits on me in 3 months..so far this year theyv replaced the diff, bluetooth control unit, glow plugs+glow plug control unit, reconditioned the tranny, drivers side window mechanism and gotten a new battery :)..less worries goin off MP..the turbo's got around 30 000 km's on it since last replacement when the actuator got very noisy..and I always warm up and let her cool down when starting and switching off.. now at least I don't have to worry bout the turbo..in the clip thats the loudest it gets..I took the clip around the time it snowed in JHB..

Mo that's a lot softer than what mine was. Don't think you have anything to worry about bud.

They are pushing to have my car finished today. :joy:

Thanks Dippies, now I know that I have a new Turbo so next year when my M/Plan expires I can go mad and load some Software :=):
