Well i have not dyno the car but the turbo lag is gone and car is way more responsive. it is kind of bolt on, alot of modifications must be done to the intercooler pipes. i am still looking for someone that makes custom intercooler pipes. But my modified ones are still working for now.

You can phone oom Hano from SAIC Performance @ 082 722 9020 he will sort your boostpipes

I must say all these comments make me regret not getting a diesel....met eish!

You and me both, buddy. :fencelook:

Lol... I love the 6pot petrol, but eish... I'm too spoiled by my current 320d. It just makes it soooo hard to consider a petrol engine again.

I have a pre-lci 320d which has around 191xxxkm on the clock. I would suggest an aftermarket warranty for unforeseen major repairs. The car however runs well and has a decent amount of power with the stock setup / software to use as a daily. It also (the engine) has potential to be upgraded to a mid-power car.

Hi

Bought a 2009 e90 320d M sport Auto in 2010 at 23,000km

Other than normal wear & tear and/or accident damaged items, these were changed
*2015
battery R2k
Fan/blower used R3k

*2016
engine mounts R5k
4 x Sachs shocks R7k

*2017 (264,000km)
Driver glove box R1k
Boot handle switch R1k
Driver lock mechanism R1k
L+R Front upper control arms R1.8k+1.8k
L+R Front lower control arms R1.8k+1.8k
Vibration damper pulley R4.6k
Power steering pump used R3k
BMW radio is off, yet to repair.

The rest seems fine. Been watching the timing chain since 2010.
I try to change oil sooner, every 12,000km vs 15,000km but I never miss.

I’ll keep it for another while until I cannot.
Cheers.

Hi all,

as you have some of my topics , I am in the process of getting a daily which will most probably be a 320d. The plan is to keep the car for 10 years so I need to know the following.

How does the two cars compare when it comes to maintenance, reliability and durability. I know the F30 is a better car around but you cant look past the E90 when it comes to value for money and I guess cheaper to maintain in the long run?

Any known issues or turbo issues on the E90 320d?

according to my understanding the E90 320d and the F30 320d does not share the same engine, for starters the e90 has a single turbo and the f30 is twin turbo
E90 320d got turbo?

seems like most of you have the LCi model

mine is the older model 2006 Msport 320d, best value for money can buy.

Only issue i have had thus far which has bugged me is the window regulators giving up because my wife uses it 90% of the time nobody sits in the back seats. then my battery died on me:fencelook: , replaced it and never registered the new battery to the car ....my mileage is still 178000kms. had the car for a long time now....

Now the key broke due to negligence. :thumbdo:

Other than that , a beautiful car with plenty power(mine is stock std) and a beautiful suspension.

Ill never part with this car - however....if offered the right price....then that may change....hehehehehheh:hammerhead:

I'd say go with the f30, mainly based on my experience with my spawn of satan (i say that with reason)

it has its ups and downs. Got my car at +78000km and its sitting on +86000km in the period of owning the car I've had the following done:
- Timing chain (in MP)
- Water pump (in MP)
- Recently my exhaust messed up - car is currently at BMW, waiting to hear back from them (Out of MP) & with that there is the ticking sound coming from the motor after letting the car idle warm

Don't get one out of plan, for that peace of mind.
It is a beautiful car and the drive is comfortable and entertaining

One thing I regret is not test driving a 320d f30 before making the decision but I really am enjoying the 320i f30

That's what I've experienced this far with mine, yes it is a bad thing taking into consideration that the car is only 5 years old, but with it being bought second hand and not knowing how the previous owner took care of the car also plays a role, in my opinion.

I drive my car hard, there isnt a day where i take it "easy" so my motor does take a beating. i mean what is eco mode?.

I cant speak for other F30 auto drivers but regardless of what im going through right now i dont regret my buy

For those of you who have had to do the timing chain or is monitoring it, I have an 09 320d 130kw which some forums say is more prone to the timing chain issues, how do you monitor it or have it checked? I'd like to have mine checked but with it being enclosed at the back of the engine i don't know if it's possible.
