E90 320d injectors

Good day guys.

So my car has developed a slight hard start, dropped the car off at Steve's auto and he diagnosed as the injectors needing to be replaced.

From those in the know, is replacing them the only step I have or can I have them recon them properly and if so who does it and what is the cost more or less?

btw, I have the n47 diesel motor.

Thanx guys

Have them ultrasonically cleaned and tested at a reputable place such as Diesel Electric. Try the one in Paarden Island: JEG Diesel.

PS: I assumed you're in Cape Town, since you didn't include it in the post above.

Hi Ricki.

Thanx for the reply.

I'm based in JHB, sorry about that....will update my info.

I will give diesel electric a call concerning the ultrasonic cleaning......but, I have bigger problems at the moment, it would appear that my head gasket is gone. Constant coolant loss, pressure building up in the expansion tank, top coolant hose is extremely hard and hot. I also accessed the hidden menu and my coolant temperature ranges between 90 and 105 degrees which eventually leads to the high speed fan coming on.

Quite a bummer with the festive season right on our door steps...and this after I have spent quite a bit already, new thermostat, new waterpump, new starter, new coolant hoses, new battery, new expansion tank...and I put my volvo on hold as it needs a alternator to sort out the bmw, ah well...these things happen unfortunately.

I will tackle this problem next month...head removal, send off to the engineers to inspect and correct what needs to be done, new head gasket and while that's happening, I'll send the injectors off to be cleaned and sorted.
Anything recommended that I inspect or have sorted while the head is off?

Thanx gents.

Hi sorry to hear about the dilemma. :uhoh:

Except for cleaning off any carbon deposits, I can't think of any other maintenance that needs to be done.

Good luck with this. It sounds expensive!

Hi Bud

regarding the injectors
why not try the cheap method first.
throw in some in injector cleaner (between R40 - R150), go for a nice long spirited drive and see what happens afterwards?
Wynns or Shield sell for +/- R60
NF diesel boost might work also

Hi momo1

Funny thing, I'm a manager at Shield Chemicals so I have access to all these additives. I have tried a bottle but I just haven't had the opportunity to drive the car like I stole it due to the overheating issues currently. But thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it.

Just as a matter of referrence I want to find out something. I started the car today and I accessed the hidden menu and watched the temperature from start up. I read on one of the other forums that the water temps should stay in between the 75 - 90 degrees. I watched and the fan only switched on at 97 degrees and switched off as soon as it got to 96 degrees, surely that is not right.
So before assuming the worst is there something else I can check because I'm sure the fan should have switched on at least at 90 degrees. Where is the fan switch located, also what triggers the fan to come on, I would have assumed as soon as the thermostat opens the fan will come on which wasn't the case.

Thanx
