Hi Guys

I have been quoted by GW R2800 for the Febi front Disks and pads.

Just wanted to find out if this is decent quality disks and pads? Any guys used it and comments?

Thanks

I was in the same boat last week.

The disks are way over priced, so i bought the febi pads at GW ,and went to Star brake and clutch and bought disks there.

So i ended up paying R1000 for the disk, instead of R1800 for the febi disks.

I fitted them this past Friday, so i have only done about 40 kms on them thus far. To early to get a real reading of stopping power vs brake dust. The rain hasn't helped either to get a good review on them.

But thus far braking power feels great, and no squeeking.

In the past i have tried oem/textar and Ate.
My favorite is still Ate. best braking power, minimal brake power fading, and least dust. I def recommend them, unfortunately no one had stock in the Edenvale area.

The textars were good, but sheesh do they make dust.

All the best, let us know what you end up getting, and thoughts

I have the Febi pads on currently and no issues with them.
Can't really comment on quality compared to Textar, ATE, etc.

Midas stock Brembo pads now, so I want to try those next.

My opinion based on previous cars. I would always recommend OEM disks with a reputable OEM equivalent pad for the best compromise between quality and budget.
The aftermarket disks warp and distort easily under a series of hardbraking events. Eventually you get that annoying steering wheel tremble under ALL braking events. At that point you have cooked your disks. I have tried that and learnt the hard way.

@ Danny@DSCmotorsport

Where can i get quotes for these brands you mentioned?

@ Rodga - Thanks

I do not have part numbers. i will check if i can pick it up from realoem and see if i can give you feedback.

@Filv

Thanks alot for the feedback. I might be going this way as well. I also phoned Star brake and clutch. Was just worried about the disk brand. But the price is good. Actually my local Midas, here in Brakpan has ATE, they couldn't give exact pricing because he wanted samples, but said more or less R2500.

@ SherwinZ

Thanks for feedback. My midas doesn't stock Brembo. They have ATE, Ferodo and two Chinese brands

@ ShonRoopnarain

What you saying is very true. lol, my brakes are currently doing exactly what you saying, it is trembling. Problem is last time i got a quote for front discs on my 330i E90, they where over R3k each. I just cant afford that right now as im in and out work.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Appreciate it!

Personally I would not touch Febi products with a 10 foot pole, horrible experiences with their other products (non brake related).

I would suggest you contact Deago from Auto Bavaria Midrand and Neo from Imcomex for other options.. Textar, Jurid and TRW are OEM.

I’ll comment based on experience...

A customer from here brought me an e92 325i and febi discs to fit a few weeks ago, they were decent quality and are coated on the non contact surfaces so they don’t rust and corrode over time. Absolutely nothing wrong with them, if it’s what you can get at the time that u need your brakes done, they will work fine . Same goes for the pads.

On a side note I’ve been told before that I shouldn’t use febi products based on other people’s experience but I personally have fitted loads of febi items over the last few years to both my own cars and customers without having issues. My z4 has a febi guibo and center bearing for 3 years now and I’ve tracked it and done hill climb and stuff and it doesn’t even have a single crack on it when I did the inspection 2 weeks ago.

Below is a pic the OEM bmw guibo and Febi guibo that I fitted in both my M coupe and PLV’s M roadster.

It’s the same thing , just the bmw stamp and part number has been rubbed off.

So until I have my own bad experience with febi products , I still use them where needed.

Not saying that everyone must now and go fit febi stuff on their cars , but that’s just how I see it, it’s a decent aftermarket replacement part.

Use OEM, unless you're doing a brake upgrade

I still have OEM pads and disks on my 330i. And they work great. Very great as a matter of fact.

But I've been out of work for some time now. And I'm looking for something lighter on the pocket!

I fitted Febi disks and pads to my E90 LCI 320d about 12000km ago. They aren't bad, no squeaking or vibrations, however the difference in stopping power compared to the OEM disks and pads I had on before, is noticeable. I plan to try to find Textar next time, unfortunately when I was looking they had no stock.

I used Febi products on my Merc, also bought because of the price they came in at.

What I noticed were that the brakes pads wore out quick, stopping ability is much less however less brake dust. They also started screeching after a while...so next brake change i did the Febi disc and pads together and got vented and slotted discs.

End result is the same on the pads...eventually sent the car to merc and got the OEM pads fitted. The feedback from merc was that the discs were fine and had no issues although the pads were questionable cause the screeching was from the harder compound that they are made of.

So the Febi disc together with the OEM brake pad was a great combo...the car stopped tons better than with the OEM discs and pads.

I would say go check the price with Deago from ABM, I got quoted R1100 price difference from normal OEM price which was stellar. At the discounts we get from ABM, its very difficult to say no to using OEM.

Bite the bullet a bit harder and ge the OEM set up...

Also ensure that you do the bed in procedure after fitting the new discs and pads? That also makes the world of a difference in getting the pad and disc to work together.

I know this quite late, and probably of no use now, but, I had to do brakes and pads on my E90 320d lci last year June, after chatting with the guys here, doing some research and with budget constraints, I chose the Febi discs and pads. My Friend lent me his garage, some tools I didnt have and his experience and we swapped them out. So far all has been well, not braking issues or noises. Thus far i am quite happy.
