E65 730d - should I buy it?

if you buy this horrid piece of metal,you will not be allowed to park it in my drive way,nor near any of my cars,in fact I wont even let you into our street.

and if you park it next to me at a meet up I will jump on it to try and make it look prettier.

We had an E65 745i in 2006 and only had it for a year, it had quite a lot of electronic gremlins that we found difficult to sort out.

Was a great car though, ours was driven hard and it didn't feel out of place at the limit.

A bit big too comfortably use as a daily though, I would personally go for an E60.

55k is the price I can get it for.

some concerns
1)Why is the price so low ?
2)Isn't this the same vehicle for sale to you at R55K a while ago, in other words, it hasn't sold for a while....whats the reason for it not getting sold ?

on the bright side, I think you should be able to get more than R55K for the E39-530d, so you should have cash to spare to "try" and repair anything that unsuspectantly arises from this purchase.

The one and the same.

It's advertised for 85k. I can get it for 55k. I know exactly how much the dealer paid, who got it from an old friend who no longer wanted it.

I can indeed get more than 55k for the 5er.

For that price I would buy it as a parts car and then grab a clean one as a daily... Just saying...

Soft close mechanism would push the door back out so the door wouldn't actually close (driver's side), electronic gear selector failed, automated boot motor failed and the I drive crashed.

This one only has the soft close function on the bootlid, and the bootlid isn't automated.

What were the repair costs like for the gear selector and iDrive?

Dylan rather keep your E39. Like all the others said already, you know what you got, and what you have done to maintain it.

Only and I mean only buy this, if you can afford any possible repairs.

Well, engine components should be roughly the same as it has the same engine as my 5er.

Anyways, Coisman did a trace for me and it turns out the car has had 2 owners, and now currently owned by the dealer. At the moment it's not roadworthy, but no accident or theft history.

LZ has high regard for these cars perhaps PM him or better yet take it for test drive to his shop for look see.

I just hope all those with reservastions never has to say I told you so.

Leonard no longer has his shop, otherwise that would have been my first thought. To get quotes on the repairs of the body...

We had to import replacement parts from SA so repair costs may be inflated, especially because there was a 50% tax on all imported parts. From what I remember the estimated total cost was close to 40k.
