hi
yeah i know its the e65, but i was referring to above where someone suggested "upgrading" to e60/e90...

luxo-barge's are the shizzness.

being a petrolhead by nature is a disease which i suffer from too,
and there is always something outthere to tempt one with...

So what if I buy it and finance the full amount, and then use the cash from selling my car to sort out suspension?

I would still keep the 530d  you have no idea how rare the E39 msport really is to find in proper condition.. The 7er is nice and all but to be honest it should be a 750/60 :=):

Don't do it. Even if you got it for free.

If the electronics give you grief, then you might as well introduce your bank manager to your mechanic.

Hi gents,
I own a e65 745i (pre-facelift) and here is my experience:
Mine has tiny mileage (72k)
Front shock sensors failure - New Struts - R35k
Worn Suspension Bushings - New Suspension components - R18k
Cam Sensor Failure - New Sensors - R6k
Cats Failed - De Cat and awesome custom exhaust - R12k

Having said which... if you have the funds for these buy a low mileage one and they are the most amazing cars to drive. I use mine as my daily (meaning i use it twice or three times a week) and it is by far the most comfortable of all the BM's I own (including my e38 740i and my e39 525 Touring).

It is really a case of these sold for around a bar when they were new and the maintenance on them represents what you would expect on a vehicle of that value. Rule of thumb is you buy these cars every 7-9 years... so on average a R1m car will cost you between R140k and R105k per year... well thats my experience anyway.

Great car, don't get a high miler... just asking for poo.

Dylan I would keep the e39 as it is sorted as well as a looker.

A 7 series can compromise you financially if things start going wrong.

You have not said what number this is going for... as a yardstick i bought my 745i with tiny mileage for R175k over a year ago.... if this 730d is not around the R130k mark i would be running just on the sticker price...

Besides all the "hidden gems" that await you from a maintenance perspective that crease in the rear fender is going to be very painful.... that will not pull out neatly and will need lots of bog to make smooth and will eventually become a rust trap......

:sorry: run away... this ones going to be a painful relationship...

So much of car for the money,it really is. The prices on these things are ridiculous. Even Nick's, with that low mileage, was an absolute steal. I remember seeing a 760 (facelift) with EVERYTHING, night vision cameras, the lot, with 90,000kms on the clock last year, and it was going for something like R160k,give or take.

But as everyone is rightly pointing out,it's a chance you take. You might get a mechanical and electrical minter, but you might not. Basically, you get what you pay for.

Good luck Chef, you'll make the right decision in the end.
