Hey guys. So i'm new to the forum. I stumbled across it and was really intrigued by the knowledge and help given by members. Im 21 years old and live in Northcliff, Johannesburg.

Well as you can guess from the tittle i am in need of some help. My 2004 E46 318i M decided that she had enough and mixed the oil into the cooling system. So now i have to cough up money i dont have (im a student:cry:) on sending the head to the engineers. So i would really appreciate if someone would point me in the right direction as to an affordable and reliable engineer.

I know only a little about cars so im getting a friend to help me out with the work. but if there is any other advice that you guys have to offer please feel free to do so.

Thanks:ty:

Hi & welcome to the forum !

First step is to figure out why this happened in the first place, did the motor over heat causing a head gasket failure ? Give us little more info to go on please - if possible some pics of what you removed and established thus far.

I'm not from Jhb so can't recomend anyone personally, but if your mate isn't extremely clued up I'd suggest taking the car in to someone who does. Otherwise you could be doing this all again very soon, or be looking for a new motor.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The car has never over heated. I would top the water up every few weeks but not the oil. The car went for a service in the beginning of the year. About 3 weeks after the service my oil light cam on, which I found really unusual. I parked it off and the next morning checked the oil. The oil was below the min mark. I then checked the water reservoir and found all the oil there.

So this where I am now. All I have done so far is drain the cooling system to clean it. Don't want to do anything else till I'm sure. That's why I'm speaking to you guys.

I was told that the facelift e46 318i's had an oil cooler that mixed oil into the cooling system when it failed.
Maybe you should get this theory checked out before embarking on a pricey head job...
