If money is truly no object - then yes, get an E46M3, it'll be streets more fun than a 330 and if you take good care of one it might be worth a bit in a few years time too.
Not saying it’s no object but I can handle maintenance and the car itself

hahaha, the SMG system is more than just a pump. other things can cause issues as well and may end up being minor to fix so its not a given that you going to pay 60k for a new pump if you buy one.. But hey, next time do the research before deciding on what you want.
Bru. I used the pump as an example of the costs, I never said that’s the only thing needed when it comes to smg, it was an example.
I may not be a mechanic but I still know my stuff. “Research” wise.

You are correct to reference the smg pump as it is the most expensive failure that can happen with the entire smg system.
Thankfully there’s an alternative that is better than the dealers

The most expensive immediate concern on any S54 you buy would be bearings and Vanos system failures, you'd want that sorted immediately, add to that control arms and maybe brakes, tyres, you're in for around 60-80k alone...
Hence it is very variable on what exactly you want. There are some good E46M3's out there, but a good one will cost you, both in initial costs and in initial maintaining.
Add to that the subframe issues that plague E46s and you likely need something damn near R100k ready to spend on the car to get it up and running.
You sound like you've done some initial level research but again, AdiS has a post here that goes in good depth and it's been discussed to death - the last thing you want is an M car you can't use because it's up a lift, many guys here have the motto "the most expensive M car, is a cheap M car"....
