E46 power loss

My 2004 318i has a problem...

When the engine is cold and I take off from stand still, the accelerator becomes unresponsive and the rev counter drop to almost zero, kinda like there's fuel blockage or something.

This happens only once with every cold start, once the engine warms up, everything is lavish.

Any advice?

It's your car trying to tell you not to race when she is still not ready!! :nono:

That would be true, if I were trying to race. I'm a newbie to BMW's, still learning the ropes.

This problem is worrying me, it stalled 3 times this morning on my way to work, I tried to take off and as I lifted off the clutch the revs just dropped and the accelerator was unresponsive.

Somebody told me to it could be the timing, someone else said it could be the petrol pump or the petrol filter.

BMW veterans please advice me, I'm a newbie!!!!

my car does the same thing, i have the same car.
but mine doesn't do it every morning, it does it once a week or so.
try to pull off, drop clutch, then revs drop to zero and accelerator is unresponsive. i then switch off the car, start it again and it drives off like nothing ever happpend.

at first i thought it might be a cam position sensor or something, but i dont know.

most guys will tell you that before you spend any money, have the codes read i.e. diagnostic done.

i would have done a diagnostic by now, but where i stay i dont have access to one.

let me know when you discover something

I've made an appointment with Tune Tech for next Monday, it was the earliest booking I could get.

I also did some reading on the net, most people say its the Vanos (not completely sure what that is though), the problem dates back to the E36 and apparently most of the time doesn't show up on a diagnostic.

Will keep you updated with any progress made.

I just hope it doesn't cost too much to repair
