E46 318i Touring Misfire & Power Loss

Hello All,

By now I must own the most expensive 318i Touring ever. Car was running okay and developed a misfire and on acceleration a flat spot and then a few seconds later it would regain power. I've been through 4 mechanics who changed, HT leads, cam sensors, wiring harnesses and every other sensor possible with the same problem. The 4th mechanic than opened the motor and reckoned the engine overheated and the motor needed to be redone. Lo and behold, I accepted and after almost 30k (parts got stolen while engine was at engineers and with no recourse), the car still is misfiring.

It was taken to another mechanic who again has changed sensors etc but the problem is still there. Can anyone steer me in the right direction.

Sad to say, the book value vs what you spent...is a sad state of affairs. Sorry bud...
Yes , I totally agree. The car is a factory Steel grey, Sportpack and looks fantastic, that is why I tried to keep it in order. On another note we should have a thread that exposes these mechanics so that people don't get conned.

There is actually a thread similar to this, its more dealerships to avoid. Ill try see if i come across, to post it here. Exposing mechanics and people can get very dangerous though, legally...

What year E46 318i is this? and which Engine?

You need to try and isolate the Misfire.

These mechanics are the reason i rather spend their Quoted Labour money on tools and with the help of This forum and youtube, Try to figure things out myself.
