E46 PCV / crankcase vent valve / pressure regulator

Hi guys,

So changed this on my 2005 e46 330i not more than a week ago, along with all the pipes.

So after doing the breaks today and taking it around the block, so when i switched it of, i heard a gush of wind from the engine bay after 20sec, right there i got abit worried, so switched her on again and took of the oil cap while idling, and there was some sucking, and not the good kind :nonono: ..........

So has the unit gone again for some odd reason, or was this a faulty unit??

Just mak sure that the noise you heard after 20 seconds is not the radiator flaps closing. They also work off the vacuum system. Open the bonnet and have a look after switching off.

Hella's, my 330i also makes that pressure release sound, but its not 20sec later, more like 5 to 10 sec...and my 2004 330i doesn't have radiator flaps. Checked yesterday when I had the vanos out to replace seals..

Phoenix90 got a DIY on the pcv?

I will check, but. Its definitely air getting pushed out somewhere, also, the biggest worry is that there is sucking when i put my hand over the open oil cap..

What the hell are radiator flaps ?

I will just take everything apart the weekend, and check if one of the pipes didn't loosen

The "snort" sound is normal, 3-5 seconds after switching off my car also does that. It's some sort of vacuum release I think.

And as far as I know, having a vacuum at the oil filler cap is GOOD!!
My car has a vacuum at the oil filler cap and I've replaced so many parts on my engine I'm fairly confident it's running properly (I also did my CCV a short while back)

I see, the reason why I thought this is bad is because a BMW mac told me a while ago that if there is a vacuum it means that the car is sucking all the oil down to the sump.

The X5's CCV was also replaced, but it spits out a little bit of oil when cap removed, and you can hear loss of power when doing so, same with the 318.

But with the 330, after replacing it, the sound when switching off was gone, but only realized it came back again, and only then I tested the oil cap thing.

The other problem I have is that the car hesitates in lower RPM's, sometimes it feels as if all power is lost and then suddenly it comes back, happens for a second or 2, and mostly when fully pressing the accelerator.
