E46 or E90

Noob Question. I was looking around the E46 DIY section and did not find my Air filter replacement. Browsed the E90 Section and low and behold there she was? I am now confused. I have a E46 with a E90 Engine? Or what am I missing?
The E46 Shape but E90 Engine?

Just orderd Haynes Manual for 1999-2005 and hope that will be correct.

The motor from your car was carried over into the e90 shape. So basically someone with a e90, has a e46 engine. As far as I know, in the latest incarnation, the power is up somewhat.
