E46 oil pump leak

Anyone have some advice for me? I have an oil leak at my oil pump. Looks like a gasket. Losing compression I think as well. How can I fix this without it coating an arm and leg.

Yeah, your oil pump is inside your engine. Located in the sump, so it simply cannot leak. Do you mean oil filter housing? Where on your engine is it leaking? Top, bottom?

It's may be the Vacuum Pump. It's at the top of the engine. Facing the engine it's on the right.

Looks like a gasket.

First thing you want to do is remove some bolts, this will free a gasket. Remove this gasket. The gasket should no longer be a problem.

Losing compression I think as well.

Go to a workshop that has a compression catcher, this will stop you from losing compression.

How can I fix this without it coating an arm and leg.

Keeping arms and legs out of the way is key here.

If it is your oil filter housing gasket, that will be R60 bucks and a fair bit of DIY.

Seriously, if you would like some actual help, please communicate better. Your description is borderline nonsensical, and it is difficult to decipher exactly what you mean. There are many knowledgeable members who are happy to share, but its a two way street.

Try and find a pic of your engine bay and circle the area causing the trouble.

This is the only way we can actually help you.

If it is in fact your Oil Housing Gasket, below your Oil Filter housing, then you can buy the gasket at the dealers as advised above an search online for a step by step DIY.

Should you not find the above comments or mine of any help our suggestion would be to visit a reputable shop or the dealers to assist you in your querry

Friend of mine with 328i E46 has the same problem on his car. I had a look this morning and the oil seems to be coming from the oil filter housing. I had a look at Realoem and it seems the gasket that fits underneath the housing between the housing and the block is leaking. This is a common problem on BMW engines of that vintage. Called to get a price and it is between R60 and R70. I will be getting the gasket from BMW as soon as possible. Quite a lot of items to remove to get to the filter housing bolts. First off is the fan housing and fan. Then the fan belt. Then some bolts on the alternator (please disconnect the battery for a start). Then the power steering reservoir. Just loosen the reservoir and move it aside without disconnecting the hoses. Then you should be able to get to the oil filter housing. Remove the bolts and remove the housing. Replace the leaking gasket and do the reversal of the above procedure. Good luck. (To get the fan belt off you have to unclip a small cover on the tensioner pulley and turn the bolt on the pulley clock wise to get the pulley to move to the right to take the tension off the belt in order to get the belt off) (I think it is to the right but you will see as soon as you get to the tensioner pulley - been a while since i last took a belt off)
Go onto Google and look at some diy videos. Not difficult, only time consuming if you do it for the first time. Hope this info helps!

Forgot to add: remove the air filter housing and the flexible intake pipe as well. Also, the fan nut is removed by hitting the big spanner you are using to loosen it in a clockwise direction as the thread on the waterpump shaft is a reverse thread. Sometimes that nut is difficult to get off and you have to lock the waterpump pulley but normally a good whack with a hammer on the spanner loosens it. Just be careful not to damage plastic parts on the engine when knocking with the hammer!! When the fan is loose you remove the fan housing and the fan simultaneously. But as i said, Google it and you will probably find a step by step video.
