Have you got another car to drive around for now?

I'd love to say V8 :)

But it's not going to end well.. OBD I Engine vs OBD II Car electrics...

not worried about the electronics really. was gonna run a standalone management system alongside the normal DME so that ASC/ABS functions still work. just gonna mix some signals.

but we'll see, as soon as I find a stand we'll know whats gonna happen ..

I think you should get in contact with BMW340i - a forum member - I'm sure he'll have some good insight into issues and costs related to shoe horning a V8 into an e46. Love the idea though...

I've never been scared of a tight fit. All you need is creativity, strong weed and LOADS of lube.. do it dude

That sounds far too detailed to be made up... :mmm: :clap:

Go for the V8!!!!!
If you do the conversion the right way why can't it still be a daily driver????
I have found a engineer who is going to custom make me a oil pump and sump to fit into my 328i and that will fit in the e46.
Electronics wont be to bad.

@Legacy, I will be doing everything myself, the price works out about the same ... its just the amount of work that differs... easier to rebuild.

@Werries, yea, I'm sure it can still be a daily driver, I'm sure it will be lighter on fuel than the E39, cause it weighs 200kg less. but If I'm gonna modify the sump, I will prolly make my own catch plate and use a drysump pump to do away with the sump. but yea I agree, I'm sure the electronics aint that badass. btw, just for interest sake how long is it going to take him to make the pump/sump ? if its cheaper/quicker it might be worth it for me to just do that, because the sump is the only hurdle I am worried about, the rest is attainable ...

I see more and more people leaning towards the V8 side here, I'm just getting in-decisive now. Lets see what tommorow holds ..

The oil pump will take +/- 3 days to make, but then he needs a mockup engine and measurments to the cross member to make it, and price....... Lets not go there yet.. its going to be a bit cheaper than dry sump but I don't want dry sump.

@legacy ! shot man :)

@Werries .. eish, effort to get the engine and stuff to him..

but ok, re-building the 330i engine .. no V8 swap. its just not worth it for now, don't want the value of the car to drop, I will be driving it while I finish the twin turbo build on the E39, and then I will sell it ...
