Welcome - hope you find one that the TOP gear Jeremy Clarkson did NOT own :joy:

I would call up a couple of shops like Midas / Autozone and enquire about a M3 cluth for such a car. Then call up the stealers and compare.
Sometimes finding aftermarket parts for special cars are close to non-existent.

OK. It sounds to me like you have decided to do this in your own mind before actually researching it.

First things first. Research the maintenance of these cars. While it is most definitely possible to own one of these cars out of motorplan, the trick is to do your homework, and do preventative maintenance. My advice is to go to M3Forum.net and read all of the stickies there. The Americans are very fanatical and there is a crazy amount of information there.
From what I hear about these after market warranties, they aren't really the answer. I don't think i've ever heard a good thing about them, but I could be wrong. The apparent consensus around here is that its better to save the money for maintenance you do yourself.

I'm not sure whos planning to pay for what, but keep in mind that fuel and tires are going to be more than your RunX. Also, the prices for M parts are always more than other BMWs. So above the purchase price, the ownership cost is not something to ignore. My research suggests that regular oil changes combined with preventative maintenance sees these cars staying very reliable. Having said that, however, you should research and be able to afford the preventative maintenance.

Good luck with the search, and remember - research, research, research!

Expect to pay > R2500/month on insurance at your age.
If your dad is considered as low risk he might get away with R800/month.
Parts for this car are only available from the dealer and they are hellishly expensive

Welcome and best of luck dude. At your age with only FWD experience it may be wise to consider a driving course.

They great cars, they really not as unreliable or widowmakers like alot of people make them out to be. E36, different story.
But if you hammer it all day or get unlucky, it will break in ways you never knew were financially possible.

I would say bare minimum for R10k a year on maintenance to keep it tip top.

Dont worry about mods, you dont even know what the car is capable of yet, mods can come later. And anyways, there are no real gains to be made unless you wanna spend big money.

Read and research, all in the info in the world is online. Know what your getting yourself into.

Dude, I was in the same boat, had my mind set on a e46 M...experience wasn't a prob as I drove BMW all my life...thing is tht after my research I found tht a good 4 pipe is gonna come at a price!! Maintenance is high giving the nature of the vehicle, break pads, tires, petrol alone will burn the pocket! Unless U drive like a ousie! Lol ... If finances aren't a prob for you go for it, insurance at my age of 23 was 2450 cheapest I could find!

Think hard...I recently got a e90. 325 'M pack and I'm very satisfied.
:thumbs:All the luck bud
