:coolShake: you should hear it for yourself. U'll then understand why I knew u hadn't heard one. They sound proper and yes they are loud which I agree is good!
Reese, I think you'll discover that Vukmiller meant loud does not equal good. That is what the != stands for.
Now I am going to ignore the 0-200 acceleration aspect of the video I posted and concentrate more on the sound of each car from said video, which is something I also noticed and many people have commented on. Reese, please feel free to upload sound clips of your car as I am sure we would all like to hear it properly.
Going on some of the comments on this forum and the video comments on youtube, it seems many prefer the sound of the e46 M3.
With that being said, one does have to wonder why more than a considerable number of respected motor car journalists from around the world are all of the same opinion about the exhaust note of the new breed of ///M cars, namely the M3/M4 and the M2. You cannot help but assume that maybe the car just doesn't sound as great as it's predecessors? Maybe this is why so many people who haven't driven the car think it sounds bad? Now, I personally think it does sound good, and I am sure it sounds great to you, and it should, but most journalists have compared the M2 and it's bigger brother, the M3/4, to past generations of M3's and they all agree that the exhaust note is lacking. The commonly asked question of "Why would BMW have artificial engine notes play through their speakers?" does seem to raise a few eyebrows. Are they compensating for something? Or maybe the lacklustre stock exhaust note is BMW just trying to sell more performance exhausts / Akrapovic exhausts (which I believe should have come stock on these cars).
Whatever the reason, I'm sorry to say it man, but I have to agree, I too am not completely impressed with the M2/M3/M4 soundtrack. As mentioned above, I do think it is good, it does sound like a proper performance car and yes, I've been behind an M4 at full tilt (where you will hear it best), it sounds mean, but, and this is my opinion with some experience, but it just does not sound as good as a naturally aspirated car in the same league. Let's not kid ourselves here. The turbo just simply and remorsefully kills the exhaust note. End of story. Nothing to discuss.
Now, the Crackle and pop when releasing the throttle, I'll admit is kinda damn cool, buuuuuuut in my opinion, I still love the hum of a high revving naturally aspirated engine when lifting off at 8000rpm. That is just what I like, I'm not implying which is better. PS. If any of you e46 M3 owners are a feeling like a bit of a kid, you can enable the crackle and pop exhaust feature on the e46 M3 with a simple hex change on the ECU BTW. Makes the car fart and burble when you lift off the throttle. Google it and be surprised.

People who are facing away from you turn around to see what's coming when u are a block away still.
Yeah,, I get this everyday too when I drive my e46 M3. Always. I also had a guy selling newspapers one morning tell me I am the #1 boss. Boy did I feel important. Once, I even had a modestly good looking woman (at least I think she was good looking, actually I couldn't really tell as I was driving too fast) throw her bra at me as I drove past. I've even had a car full of babes flash me as I revved my car near them.
Sarcasm off.
Ok, enough kak, if you will let me entertain you with a video of a modified F30 328i with JB4, headers, catless downpipe, CAI with Flexi-fuel Wires (40% e85) vs an e46 M3 with headers and tune. (USA M3's had restrictive headers for emissions, so many e46 owners bought Euro headers or aftermarket headers to regain the lost HP their cars suffered). Now yes, I know this isn't an M2, and I am not comparing which car is faster, I would just like to demonstrate what a well driven e46 M3 sounds like against a highly modified BMW turbo car. I am 100% sure the M2 will most definitely sound better than this 328i, but I'd be amazed if it sounded anything as good as a screaming S54 at full wide open throttle.

and lastly, let me entertain you of a video of my personal M3 fitted with an aftermarket intake manifold. You just cannot beat this intake sound on a new generation turbo BMW.

In regards to which car I would own if you were to give me one right now, that would be a difficult question as for me, it is about looks and driver experience and not who is faster. Trust me, I know what speed is, my M3 used to be supercharged, its not everything. I am absolutely in love with the looks of the M4 and the M2 is kinda growing on me, but looks wise, the way I have my e46 M3 setup right now just does it for me. I absolutely love the shape and look of the e46 M3, it simply speaks to me and who I am. With that being said, it seems many journalists are comparing the M2 to the e46 M3 and saying they are very similar in how they drive, and that the M2 should appeal to enthusiasts who thought BMW was returning to it's roots. All in all, though, I have found that most journalists still agree that the e46 M3 is still the purer of the two cars and if that is really true, then I'll gladly keep my e46 M3 because I love knowing what my front axle is doing as I wrestle this raging bull around corners at triple digit speeds.
FLAME SUIT ON
I don't want to turn this thread into a "which car is the better" thread, which I can see it already going towards, but I would take that e46 M3 over the M2 purely on how sexy it looks. Jesus, look at that thing. The e46 M3 is still a better looking car in my books. Sorry M2
