e46 m3 "version 4" motor identification

hey guys

does anyone know how you can verify if the motor has been upgraded
to the "Version 4" motor which included new conrods, stronger bolts, bearings, oil pump etc. if it was manufactured before October 2003?

I suppose BMW will have records of this corresponding to the VIN?

If the build date was June 03 or later then yes, it has the "version 4" motor. They did the facelift in June 03.
