Good day fanatics!!
The past weekend, we had n BMW Gauteng Car Club track day at Kyalami, we had a points race for the BMW Bridgestone Challenge, and also time trials.
I entered for the race only. During the two practice sessions, my car cut out intermitently, no fuel supply. Before qualification, I fitted an extra earth connection to the fuel pump. I thought it solved the problem. But in qualifying, the car cut out again!! I qualified stone last due to the problem.
Before race 1, I fitted an ekstra positive connection between the fuel pump and the harnass, closest to the fuel pump. Race-1 started, the car went like a rocket, I knew the problem was solved.
I raced through the pack over 8-laps to end 12th overall and 4th in class.
Inverted grid placing applies after race one so I started in 20th place, leaving me with a big fight to get to the front in only 6-laps!!
I managed to move up to 10th place overall and 2nd in class-C, which gave me an overall 2nd in class-C for the day. My best lap was 2:04,8!!!
During the last 3-laps of race 2, I felt a serious vibration coming from the drive-train.
I nursed the car home, luckily I had enough distance between me and Andreas Meyer, to stay in front. After the race we found that the rubber coupling between the gearbox and the propshaft was shredded, due to the clutch assembly being mostly solid without any dampening material.
The racing this year was good, with three podiums out of six race meetings. I am giving the last race at Redstar a miss due to other commitments.
The coming weekend my former champion rally navigator, Cobus Böhmer, will join me for the Pretoria All Tar Rally. It will include stages at Gerotec and Zwartkops raceway. The last three Zwartkops stages will be run during night time. We will be taking on the likes of GTR's, Scoobies and other properly fast cars.
If you guys ever get the opportunity to drive on Kyalami, do not miss the chance. The new track is flippen awesome. Lots of grip and the new exteded sections and new corners makes for great driving with lots of overtaking opportunities.
I will post some pics of the past race.
