E46 M3 Race Car build

Thanks born2boost!

Luckely no flames, only smoke, I gave it 3 shirt bursts of powder just to make sure there's no flame that could cause havoc.

I want to upgrade the suspension tune to a similar spec as Riaans M3. We have all the settings available and should not have much trouble to dial out the understeer.

It is currently only slight understeer, but enough to cost me 0,5 sec in each short tight corner.

I am not very fond of the Yokohama semi-slicks, they take too long to get to optimal operating temperature. I yhink that also contributes to increased understeer early in a session. I would like to fit Bridgestone R's for the 2 April race.

Please send me your cell no and real name

Did you try a bit of trail-braking, it might be enough to get it rotating.

Unless it is understeer post-apex I guess.

There are so many variables that affect a car's setup, it all becomes a bit daunting to get a setup that works for you.

I do love messing with different approaches and then track testing, but you can run a car for days and still not get the perfect setup.

That being said, it is nice to have some experience on the platform like Freddie and Co. does, it makes like much easier for someone with a day job.

The driver-mod is still the cheapest modification to any car though, just not always the easiest...

Carbon, yes, driver mod as well, I am still getting used to the M3. It is lighter and nipier than the GT3 RS and much sharper on the brakes. More twtchy than the RS as well. I suppose I'll become smoother as I get more track time in.

Just noticed this. How is Riaan's suspension different to yours?

just read your thread from start to finish,
just plain awesome and wow:praise::praise::praise:congrats, you really have built something special there,

i wanted to ask about your wheels, are they A-Line wizards? i see you mention another name in your spec sheet, also how light are they if you remember? good lightweight track wheel?

Hi guys, sorry for not responding for só many weeks. Just hectic and busy with court matters.

Nirvash, they are A-Line Koya Racing rims.

My car's got fancy H&R RSN race shocks, Riaan's has a higher spec Specially built Koni system.

Phakisa gave excellent opportunity to further tune ride hight, camber and toe settings as well as to compare Bridgestone R v Yokohama semi's. All I can say is, stay away from the Yoki's.

Within one day of practice and racing, my laptime improved by 4,5 Secs! Qualifying saw my best laptime 1:53,1.

First race was a stuff up when youngster Warren Dodd smashed into Riaan's car and thereby causing havoc in the first corner and a red flag. I drove trough the debris as I avoided Dodd's skidding car, and picked up a puncture left front which forced me to retire on lap 5.

Race two I started at the back in class, and I managed 6th.

It was a good weekend as to setup and pace.

Last weekend we raced at Midvaal, very rough, bouncy and technical.

I qualified sixth with a 1:15,8, finished fourth after a hard fight with Fred and Mishal, in race I did a 1:13,7, and beat Mishal's time by 0,1 sec.

Race two, I started further back due to reverse grid rules, this time I beat Fred by 0'2 sec. Finished 4th.

Fred and I shared third overall points but due to me having done overall quicker fastest lap times, I received the 2nd place trophy in class C!!

The setup was adapted before the race with a reduction in front spring rates from 200 to 180Nm/mm and 0 toe from 1mm toe out on either side.

The car ran well with the extra new coolers, E92 M3 oilcooler and a proper cooler for power steering fluid. Also a new addition is an aluminium header tank. Pics to follow soon.

I found Shrick cams!!! Watch this space!

I liked Midvaal also found it technical, how did your tires hold up on the surface?

Dewald, I qualified with tyres I did the previous race event with, including an old well worn left rear tyre I got from Edwin Dreyer after the Phakisa race 1 puncture.

At Midvaal I fitted the used left front at the left rear and a new tyre left front, as only 2 corners at Midvaal are lefthanders.

It is a high wear surface at Midvaal and I therefore wanted to save my new set of tyres.

Makes sense, my left front took alot of punishment.

The car is looking good :clapper:

Hi fanatics, I attended an excellent and very well organised BMW Car Club track day at Zwartkops today.

Where are all the fanatics? So many guys built race cars an screamers, but no one would come to attend the track days??!

I would like to encourage the fanatics to get your cars out onto the track, real race track for fast drivers, not the straight ones only that caters for fast cars

Very Exciting thread this. Phillip what cams did you get and where are you sending your head to be flowed?

I'm considering fitting the shcrick 288 intake 280 exh std 12.5mm lift cams to my M3. And sending my head to van der linde. Your findings will be appreciated.

Hi Andy, sorry for not replying, I have been extremely busy lately.

I think the cams are exactly the same as the ones you are planning to get.

Van Der Linde fitted mine and flowed the head, also renewed the seals and guides. It gave a big improvement. I must say that I believe yhat the large gain is also attributed to the high flow exhaust system, if you put more air in, you must get be able to get rid of the higher volume exhaust gas. So, a proper exh is a must.

My car makes 225wkW under load currently.
