E46 Engine Vibration

My 2002 318i E46 Engine has just been redone. Complete head, valves and bearings. Only 120,000 KM; never overheated etc..
The car now has a vibration which seems to come from the engine. The frequency and intensity increases with RPM increase. It gets bad from about 3500 upwards and at 5000 RPM its very bad. We looked for anything touching the engine, drivetrain etc. Only done 350 KM after overhaul. Reason for overall was oil consumption and smoke but otherwise it ran perfect. Any suggestions?

Was the counterbalance shaft "timing" correctly set? It's driven by the timing chain and rotates in the opposite direction to the crank to cancel out unwanted vibrations...

I have now done 1500 Km after the engine overhaul. After about 500 Km the problem started improving and is still improving. It seems to have simply been a tight ring or bearing that had to run in. It is now running fine except at 5000 to 6000 RPM and that improving as the Km's stack up as well.

dam that sounds scary...
tight rings and bearings...

i hope it all works out for you though:thumbs:

I have fixed my engine vibration by replacing my aftermarket engine mountings with BMW ones. There is an unbelievable difference between BMW and aftermarket mountings.:joy:
