E46 cigarette socket replacement query

Hi there guys.

My 12v lighter plug in my e46 has stopped working which is quite a frustration. I alredy tried tp bend back the little prongs inside the socket to make better contact but it still didnt quite solve the problem. The phone charger has to be fidlled around quite a lot in order to get it to work. So now i want to know how do i remove the lighter socket to fit a new one?

You have to take it apart and clean it , clean the dirt out from the lighter socket , or Rust if it has any.

Gents, I didn't want to start a new thread on this topic so I decided to revive this one.

I had this annoying issue on my E90 and I am experiencing the same issue on my E82 where the charger works intermittently. If you move the chargers around and hold them in the right position they begin to charge the device but obviously while you're driving its impossible and they go off.

I've googled a bit and some have mentioned changing fuses, which I think doesn't apply to my situation because it charges when held in a certain position.

There are some that mentioned cleaning the cigarette lighter with steel wool which I haven't tried yet.

Anyone know where I could take it over the weekend to get looked at or who has experienced this and found a fix?
