This was just clarified to be massively complicated.........

Although.......... i remember watching a youtube vidoes of a ou in the US who drop an S85 into an E46..... don't know the nitty gritty of it. My point is.... If u have the time and are willing to put in the effort then go for it boet.

I doubt there'll be a day that you ask for advice that a fanatic can't help you with. Veels geluk Mnr.

Think he was South African, he just used the e46 forum. He did post here. Amazing feat.

Can you say "money pit"?
I adore your enthusiasm for such a project but you are going to run into so many stumbling blocks along the way that you going to wish you never started the project. The E46 engine bay is narrow and was never built to accommodate a wide bmw V8 engine, let alone one with 2 roots-type superchargers mounted to it. Hate to say it but you would be better off with a 1JZ/2JZ swap, will cost 1/10th of what you about to spend on the V8 swap.

That's an idea...... but if you really want to keep it OEM why not think about S54 supercharged

Or turbo........

First thing I would do if I ever attempt something like this, is to look into an aftermarket engine management system, much easier than trying to rewire the E46 ...

Wow got some good Feedback fortunately I am not working with a shoestring budget I have done some research and yes it is going to be a bit of a challenge but that's all part of the fun.

The conversion has to be a V8 and it has to be BMW..

Nice build, I hope it all works out for you.

I saw a few years ago a maroon e36 340i, it sounded so mean at a robot I managed to ask the guy what he had and it was a M3 V8 motor in it.

Good luck

And keep us posted

When do you plan to be done? I would love to see this car "in the flesh"

we have already started the project busy prepping the E46 and my 540 is getting delivered tomorrow then we will start stripping parts out we need.
I found a M5 limited slip diff and 6 speed gearbox from a local scrapyard a pitty the engine has a hole in the block otherwize it might have been a V10 E46 :)

it will probably take a couple of months to complete! :=):

Did the gearbox actually come off a V10 motor? The V10's gearbox does not fit V8's (apart from possibly the S65)
